New Rates

It seems like they now also offer ADSL packages in conjunction with Vodacom's HDSPA and theiir original Wireless packages. I wonder who the backbone is for their ADSL, since Vodacom is obviously responsible for the HSDPA.

So do I (being on the 3.5GB contract) have to pay three months upfront to migrate to the 5GB package?

EDIT: Never mind, phoned iBurst and I don't have to :)

So I had a looksie at the Mweb link and err...where does my current 2.5 (R599) fit in? I'm on the 24 months modem included contract. Guess I have to pay up for the 5Gb one

Hey Mr H

Seems they have integrated their platform with Vodacom’s about a month or two ago; as throughput in Cape Town on the iBurst network has increased dramatically, with far more stable IP’s that are “shaped” to a lesser degree and far less "dud" IP's...

This is one SA company I will never go back to even if they are the only people offering any sort of internet service, besides been total idiots they're ripping off people at an alarming rate, even though I had a good connection I thank my lucky stars that I managed to get out without been "bitten" as hard as some have.

Moving over to my telkom ADSL account was the best move I could have made, besides been 4 times the speed I've not had a single problem with them since I got it in June/July last year.

http://www.iburst.co.za/default.aspx?link=packages_payperuse

All new iBurst Wireless, ADSL and HSDPA Packages are Pay-per-use by default. This means that when you have used up your allocated data bundle for the month, you will pay for any extra data you use at an out-of-bundle rate called Pay-per-use. Pay-per-use is charged per mb and rounded up to the nearest mb.

If you are currently on one of the old iBurst Wireless packages, your account will not automatically be provisioned with Pay-per-use. Instead, your data will either be capped or throttled when it is used up.

So if you migrate your existing package to the new ones you will be paying 95c per mb after reaching your allocated bandwidth. So you are not throttled to 64K. Or what?

Looks like only the old packages are still throttled to 64K.

This company is confusing, I don't trust anything they say. I just don't want to receive a massive invoice at the end of the month.

Reached your data limit?
You have 3 options:

* Continue on Pay-per-use (all packages are activated with PPU by default) and pay R0,95 per mb used
* Top up your bandwidth with a Bandwidth Booster. These allow you to buy bundles of extra bandwidth for less. Click here for more info.
* Opt out of PPU, which means your service will be throttled or capped unless you purchase a Bandwidth Booster (see above)

If your are an existing client, you have to migrate first to the package of your choice before you will qualify for the price changes

please not the following in regards with contract migrations

  • Month to Month (M2M) contracts can both upgrade or downgrade their package
    • 24 Month contracts can only upgrade
    • A migration will not extend your contract period
    • A downgrade fee of R199 is payable when downgrading on a month to Month contract (M2M).
    • iBurst will charge you the difference in pro rata between your current package an the new package, when doing an upward migration.
    • To get the new amount of data from the first of the next month, all migration applications must reach IBurst by the 15th of the current month.
    • All Migrations are subjected to approval by iBurst.

Call your reseller or iBurst directly for more info.

I hate this company, yesterday I could not log in at all, said username/password was invalid on domain, today my dad phones and they canceled our subscription, then it starts working later and they say they disconnected the wrong person by accident...I seriously wish my parents had gotten adsl instead of these fools!

well they just phoned me and asked me if I want PPU with my change request ... wow!

I just spoke to tradepage. They said that I must send an email to [email protected] and stipulate my request.

If you are with Tradepage you are in luck - process is painless...

The correct person to speak with is Gladys (gladys@tradep***.co.za) and CC migrations or call her directly on +27112512000.

She does it while you wait and it will be effective from the 1st of May 2008.

Be aware of the fact that you will pay R 171.00 (Ex VAT) - once off on the 9.5 Gig account (with 500 MB bandwidth more per month) as the price actually decreases by R 100; therefore by iBurst logic it is a downgrade.

There are no extra fees applicable to the 3.5 Gig package as the price remains unchanged for the extra 1.5 GB allotted bandwidth per month.

M

PPU needs to be requested from Tradepage as the norm is to cap or trottle the account...

Hi Who.is.Michael,

I just got an email yesterday from my contacts within Iburst regarding the price structural changes as per effective 1 April 2008, and according to this document, the current downward migration fee (downgrade) is R 199.00

also you need to specify if you want the data cut-off (FreeFlow,Playa and Kickstart packages) /soft-cap method(Giga and Higher) or ppu on your contract.

Hi Tian

It’s only one of the reasons I do not use iBurst as ISP, as they lack proper procedures and seem to be rather incompetent – prefer to make use of Tradepage as they seem far more efficient and cost effective.

(Replied to your post as if you were making a statement and not posing a question.)

k I just sent my fax to OnlineDirect, lets see if the sort it out correctly!

Has anyone confirmed (i.e. had money removed from their bank account) the downwards migration fee?

Moving from the 1.5GB to the 3GB package is R20 cheaper, therefore (technically) there is a migration fee, which would take 10 months to recover on the lower cost (although you get more service for that).

It is quite shocking really. It is a clever way of injecting a whole lot of cash into the company. I can't see why they shouldn't just waive this in these cases.

dsd that would be actually giving good customer service. something iburst don't subscribe to.
