New reputation system

Seen the rep system before get abused way to much! Without constant monitoring (which takes too much effort) it just ends up failing in what it is suppose to do.

I'm curious just what it is meant to do, in the first place?

I don't mind it, I just don't see the point of it.

The only thing I can think of is hierarchy. IMHO i havent seem much maturity displayed when replying to opinions that are usually given here. So the logical progression of this system will be, hierarchy = bias = intolerance = pettiness…

Labeling people is what drives our world.

I also really don't get the purpose of having a rep system.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, it makes sense to me if the posts that receive the rep, have that reflected visually. Then the whole system has a purpose; Pointing out worthwhile posts...

This is not possible though, apparently, so what do we have now? A pointless, mostly private, back-patting system.

Okay, to be honest, I think that a XDA-type "Say Thanks" on a post by post basis may be a better solution than repping members.

+1000....being misused behind the scenes by members - Repping for the hell of it. There's no transparency in this tool which makes the system weak. Good initiative but poorly executed and not thought through well enough.

So when are we going to vote this thing in/out?

Agreed.

As is this system only creates the impression that a poster's opinion is trustworthy, which is not necessarily the case. Also, it doesn't seem to differentiate between subforums, so a poster's rep when posting in a hardware advise thread will look the same as in TK. That seems ... scary.

//pats copa's back

I agree. It does not really bother me but I do not think that it is doing anything positive for the forum.

+1

This might just make some members use a lot of fake accounts to up their "status".

That is an inverted e-peen level of desperation. :erm:

I've seen it all, especially during the era of Facebook games.

You'll be surprised how desperate some people might be, like knocking up 10000 posts in TK threads in less than a year. Which means they have no life. But it happens. ;)
