New The PC Build Thread

Not a lot has changed in 20 years, besides the no hard drives, you just slot the nvme in to the slot, just assemble everything outside the case, CPU on to motherboard, cooler on, ram in, nvme in. Make sure the standoffs are in the correct place and get screwing :-).
Unless it's a cooler as big as the A620 and Peerless Assassins ;-) cause you'd struggled to get to the CPU power and the screw on the top left. Though for the CPU cable and motherboard getting extensions can make it easier apparently, as you plug in the extensions before you mount, feed them through the holes and secure behind to the actual power supply.
Also helps with modular power supplies.
Everything is easy until its time to plug in the case connectors because I'm 47 years old and can't see for **** anymore.

Yeah those little front panel connectors are a pain, there was a motherboard I had back in the day that had a separate connector.
You would connect the front panel stuff to it and then just slot it into the normal front panel. Why no one does that anymore is such a shame as it's pretty much standardised, the only thing that seems to move is the PC Speaker, if it exists.

Short, concise and to the point :-)
Haha ja look I need a bit more time with them, but they do have that trademark 'tinny-ness' I often find with the cheaper sets. Good low end, but mids and highs are where it's not too great. Comfort is good, they are very light, but a bit tight at the same time. Easy setup, easy to use on my phone. Need to test them with games later, but so far I have only tested my own mixes, and then some music.

For me games don't really need to have the best overall sound, I mean I got a pair of Redragon Zeus phones that are great for games but not the best overall. Same as some IEMs I picked up, they actually work far better on games then music.

Thanks again everyone for all the guidance, even if I am spinning in circles.
To try and get a baseline comparison these builds are are essentially the same and from what I see the CPU performance is close.

(Considering 1TB nvme from Evetech)

Its essentially R1000 premium for AM5 which over the total PC cost isnt nuts. I just find it very difficult to put a peg in the ground and try predict what upgrades would be done in the future on this. My gut says he wont upgrade for 3 years (its been two years of saving to get to this point) and if he does will he really be keeping the same motherboard anyway or will be wait and make a generational jump.

Thanks again everyone.

If you can go for AM5 then go for AM5. It'll last longer. If you need to replace an AM4 part 2 years from now you might run into trouble. AM4 is simply the cheapest option. It's not the best option.

AM5 second hand will bring the 7800x3d or 9800x3d if people flog them. The AM4 would be the 5700x3d or 5800x3d the AM5 will probably still have some teeth in 3 years time for second hand market to just get a chip upgrade, the AM4 possibly as well due to lifespan but by then it would be 12 years old.

@Progenix Oj101 Love your site but if I can throw in a completely unrelated suggestion - please loose the RBG header on top. I find it distracting and it really hit last night when I was browsing in a dark room on a large screen TV.

The standard black text on yellow background will stand out just fine.

Just a suggestion.

I finally got everything ordered.
- RTX5050 and 1TB nvme from Evetech
- I found these on Kloppers -> Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 16GB 6000MHz CL36 Memory - R3198 for two of them.

Hope I made wise choices.
Thanks everyone for the help, my son is going to freek out when the deliveries start arriving.
Glad you stuck with AM5. PSU is fine for now, it doesn't have much wiggle room, but such is life. PSU can always be upgraded later on. :) Happy building :)

I did some shopping as well today. New mouse pad, keyboard/mouse, and non rgb fans for my case the fans I have borrowed for my system needs to go back to the other system.

Tried my luck and ordered 4 x 2tb constellations. I am hoping a larger sample size give me betters drives.

Looked and NAS enclosures FK ME, they are expensive....Going the DIY route with a raspberry pi NAS will work out much cheaper.

The colouring has been through several iterations over the years. You mentioned black on yellow so you must've seen the first form a good number of years back.

Black on yellow - people missed it
Red on yellow - people missed it
White on dark blue - people missed it
White on red - people missed it
Magenta on cyan - people missed it
AAAARGH GEEEE BEEEE - people find it annoying, but they notice it

Be me
Receive a mail on a long weekend
Receive another mail later that day asking why we're not replying
Sigh to myself and send an reply, pointing out the banner (which used to be slightly bigger, but not RGB) saying we're closed
"Oh, I didn't see that, my bad, enjoy the time off"

The banner is seldom there, really just August (birthday month), Black November, and December closing days.

Thanks!
Although after celebrating, and paying, I just got an email from Wootware saying I have to purchase the DDR from them! So now I am cancelling Kloppers and Wootware and starting again.
Good luck with the NAS, I just an old laptop with a bunch of old USB drivers, seems good enough but obviously no redundancy.
