New The PC Build Thread

Sorry to just jump in but i would like your guys opinion on this, I have a fairly ok PC X570 MB ryzen 5600x 32GB RAM but my GPU has seen better days its still the RX580 8GB (which has served me well) but now playing new games like god of war Ragnarok or wukong the FPS drops to like 20 at times.

So I want to get a new GPU I am looking at getting the 4070 super but I don't know if I should just wait for RTX 5000 the 5070 probably won't be around till March 2025

So I don't know If should just pull the trigger now or wait, Do you guys see the 4070 super's price come down for black Friday much?

There's one left.

Cool, you can give us a AK620 Digital Pro review since the American and Canadian reviewers won't. It should be better than the current Assassin IV until the VC comes along. For considering the standard AK620 digital, which is not in stock with Wootware, the ID-Cooling A620 or its PRO sibling (which is cheaper, and have better RAM clearance) can be considered.

These coolers are more than enough to cool the X3D CPUs.

Temps stay pretty much constant when gaming and under stress. The fans spin up more under greater detected CPU heat - but they do not sound "noisy". The nice digital temp and detail display is great. It is pleasing to look at and well-built. It does not chow power as in wattage either. The fans are premium. Heatsink and copper is top-notch.

Make sure you have a CPU contact plate and good Hydronaught/MX 6 thermal paste that is applied properly. This alone will help temps keep low in huge ways.

CPU contact plate?
Recommended for LGA1700/LGA1815/AM5 as well. It prevents "warping/bending" due to heat. It makes sure that heat disperses evenly so the cooler can work better (tight fit between cooler/cpu). May give some protection to mainboard components indirectly.

Oh that. Yea, not needed for AM5. It was a solution for the Intel 13th and 14th gen CPUs which were made in a banana press.

I feel a lot more assured having a Contact Plate. AM5 also has a "hot-spot" where more heat is accumulated. Reports of 10 C lower heat from some sites with a good contact plate installed vs none.

It helps protect a very expensive CPU. You can pick up a 2nd hand cheap as well.

This is my build atm. I added 2 extra 140 RX fans to the case and got Hydronaught thermal paste instead of the low quality stuff that comes with the cpu.

I also added a contact frame for AM5 (used) and a surge supressor that connects to the UPS. The PSU was for future proofing...plus it's very efficient watt-wise and has low voltage ripple.

Wait for the Black Friday sales. If nothing's available there then wait for the 5000 series of RTX cards to launch next year - then prices for a 4070 super will drop a lot. I really do not recommend the 4070 super though.

At the moment the best price vs performance is a RTX 4070 Ti Super (~R17 499 new). Some used ones for sale at few thousand Rands off at Carbonite.

Wait for black friday at least.

Because some people think that getting a 9800x3d will give them a massive boost in frame rate over their 5800x3d when playing at 4k on a 4070 or 4080.

In reality this isn't the case.

GPUs are by far the most limiting factor for gaming FPS at high resolution which is exactly why they have to go down to 1080p (on a 4090!) to see the difference between the CPUs.

So it is really quite pointless spending big bucks on the newest CPU when you can buy (or keep your) last generation or even a 2 generation old CPU and spend the money you saved on a better GPU. That will be a far better combo for your FPS at 4k.

Jip. Looking at it my 5800x3d is still competitive. Will be skipping am5 .Better upgrade path will be the new NV cards coming next year.

I was lucky to snag myself a 9800x3D in the Netherlands when it launched around 3pm and in 40min it was all sold out for 499 euros and now I saw the same website bumped the price to 600 euros and it is out of stock till next year. Seems a lot of people been waiting for this CPU launch.

Damn that's a steal at 499 Euros! Wish I coulda gotten that sort of deal... gotta wait and pay R10 499 here :(

Nothing true about anything posted regarding AMD CPUs by Userbenchmark. They’re notorious anti-AMD, so much so that they’re a joke in the industry.

7800X3D prices are coming down already. Takealot has them R1000 cheaper than last week.

I'm so frustrated with PC pricing at the moment. I don't game much at all, so I prioritise productivity. AMD CPUs are great for power efficiency, but they only match Intel chip performance at the very high end. And the basic entry cost to the AM5 platform is steep.
Since I have a backup laptop that was lying around I don't *have* to replace my desktop in a hurry. But basic gaming perfomance is horrible. So wish I could win the lottery and buy a desktop without turning every cent over twice :)
