New The PC Build Thread

Question is... will USB4 be worth the premium? I can't actually think of anything that will require it but it would be good for future-proofing. PCIe 5 adoption also seems sluggish.

For memory support alone I will value it above the current 600 series. It depends. I will have to see the reviews and I want to see the Ryzen 7000 series tested on the 800 series boards.

This will possibly be my new board...

Availability though... August?

Currently, I am considering making my second system an AM4 system. The better B550 boards are very accessible at this time.

For CPU upgrades sure but it's not clear that the same is true for chipsets.
What would the chipset limitation be?

Neither PCI-E nor GPUs saturate what we currently have and AM5 supports PCI-E 5.0. We're nowhere near that bandwidth and likely won't be in the next 3 years.

AM5 is the only clear path right now.

Those Asrock boards look nice. He said those boards are coming in September. I am not going to wait that long only to be turned off by the price

Nice things at the MSI booth:

It seems some premium cases will now also start to have built in tablets like motorcars. Like the Hyte 70 Touch, but now with brand ecosystems. Oh, wait, Hyte has Nexus, right. Others are playing catch up.

Agreed. I forget who said it but a recent to me anyway caution from a reviewer was "Don't be an early adopter of motherboards, buy when it's over it's teething problems. Differently put buy it at the end of it's lifespan not the beginning."

AM4 is at that point now for budget buyers and AM5 for the rest.

Hopefully they stop doing stupid stuff with their firmware.... she does look pretty but she might just kill ya.

Am4 has been around for 8 years, it's a bit of a standout in terms of longevity. AM5 will have been around for at least 5 years by the time it stops getting support (per AMD). That's still pretty impressive.

AMD seems to have handed Intel's arse to it the last while..... rando teething problems aside.

Wow I've had my AM4 for 5 years already :) the AM5 doesn't seem to have the life of the AM4

It is 2027+ though. In the instance that DDR6 drops, then a dual controller could keep AM5 around in the same way as AM4. Though, it would require new boards.

Coming soon locally, what a beauty.

Lead Time: 4-6 Weeks

Not badly priced at all.

Montech's PSUs are made by Channel Well which is great, but they now have a new "Titan" series made by Seasonic, it is Prime PSUs which cost $100 less than Seasonic's... WTF?

This is going to be VERY expensive for half a decade as it's phased in? Not just the new RAM but everyone needing to buy a new chassis for the rear connectors.....

I wonder whether CAMM will stick or fade away for desktop mobo's? I can see the clear advantages for laptops.

For enthusiast gamers who are interested in Ryzen 9000, it is seemingly best to wait until X3D releases. The 7800X3D will remain the hot choice until then.
