Solid entry level build. Enjoy.

Take out the thermal paste. Wootware will use their own if they build.

And gonna daisy chain the fans? I'll get a controller but that's just me. Micro boards don't usually have 5x fan headers.

I'll also get GSkill CL30 RAM instead. Same price.

That board does have 2 fan points, so could daisy chain between those two, I generally have my front three on one, the back on another type thing.

Thanks will remove the thermal paste. Was trying to google airflow and it exhausts out the top and back and inflows was bottom and front.

Maybe I should put 2 bottom, 2 top and 1 back ?

Top, make the one in front intake, not a massive difference but it is a difference.
 
So bottom and front intake and then expel top and back. Think The font also takes a bigger fan so maybe a 140mm
 
PSU goes front.

3(or)2x side(or)bottom 1x rear 2(or)3x top.

I have 2x8GB DDR4 modules currently (16 GB total) on a Z690 i5-12400. The RAM running XMP at 4000 MHz.

I'd like to increase to 32 GB.

So my 2 options are:
1. sell the existing and buy 2x16 GB kit
2. buy another 2x8GB kit of exactly the same RAM kit (incl. same timings), etc = easier and cheaper option.

What are chances that the system will run reliably with option 2 - all 4 memory slots filled @ 4000 MHz?

Anyone tried this? I know that adding more modules (4 vs 2) reduces the signal quality and reduces overclocking stability.

With DDR 4 you should be OK on 4 but there is a chance you may need to lower some settings. It will depend on how lucky/unlucky you get with the 2 pairs matching.

The consumer CPU's/MB's/xmp mostly have 2 channels and are tuned for 2 modules so that will always work the best although 4 should be fine in most cases.

I run 4 sticks of the same RAM, no perceivable difference to when I ran 2, but this is on an AMD system though.

The problem is you might buy the exact pair ,but they might not be same thing under the skin. Your current ones might be made from samsung chips, and the new one might be made from micron. You will only know until you buy the new set. 4x sticks is fine in ddr4, more on issue on ddr5. If they not from same manufacturer then xmp might give you issues.

same price but you get cool RGB LED colours :cool:

yeah ditch the thermal paste, your fan has a packet of thermal paste in the box

Can't use that RAM with that cooler.

Max cooler clearance is 43mm with fan mounted higher than norm and that RAM is 46.1mm which means use only 1x fan which in turn means he might as well have bought a single fan cooler then.

Yep, understood. It is a bit of a roll of the dice. I might just buy new 2x16 and sell the old modules.

Easiest is to put the current ram up for sale and see if there is interest. If someone buys them then just order the new ones.

Wootware also recommend this ram, doesnt appear on the PC builder but think it is compatabile
