New The PC Build Thread

For those who don't know, Sapphire is taking its motherboards to the global market. They showcased a high-end X870E, named the X870EA Wi-Fi PhantomLink Edition, that incorporated ASUS's A(dvanced) BTF technologies. Are these ASUS-made motherboards? Dunno. They have a B850A WIFI MB motherboard available that looks like the one in the link below.

All that really matters is how much value it will bring to the market. I am hoping that they are entering the market with reasonably priced boards, but it is inevitable that the price will increase. It will have the NITRO branding, and that is its premium range.

Will it come to our shores? That is the question, but some do stock Sapphire GPUs.

I would like to see a larger range because they do have smaller boards.

Had to remove the usb header only one on the board.
Put it in an old case a friend had. Had to clean that thing wow it was dusty. Next up dig up the 4650g and cooler plus a 256gb nvme and it's a complete PC.
Oh will have 3 more temu fans on the top when they come. There is a normal molex rgb fan in the front, so it'll just randomly change. 20250903_111052.jpg

upgrading my pc from my last build in 2019. Largely driven by wanting to have a decent pc for battlefield 6 release. if you were a betting man would you say there is a good chance nvidia will have a promotion to get a free BF6 key with a GPU? Intel currently has one going but had my eyes set on going amd for a change. Current promotion is borderlands 4 with nvidia but not a fan of that game.

Congrats to everyone that got
MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Suprim Liquid X 24GB GDDR6X
Graphics Card for R25000 on evetech, seems it was legit deal with 3 year warranty!

That is not a bad deal at all. I wasn't even aware. Seeing how much the RX 7900 XTX has dropped, I am not surprised, but that MSI is a Suprim Liquid.

I don't have money like that anyway. I have other priorities.

At a guess I'd say little chance, the Borderlands 4 promo will end too close to the launch of BF6.

What are you running now that you feel you need to upgrade?

Also with the 50 series Super cards around the corner it's perhaps best to wait for those.

RTX2080 super + i7 9th generation built in 2019. Was looking at going with the RTX5070 ti and ryzen 9600x combo. Did see evetech had a 9070xt at R15k though so might go with that. Two future releases are tempting being the RTX supers but feel like thats going to be 6 months before we get reasonably priced ones in south africa or saving up to try get a x3d cpu. Trying to get a full build for just the tower at R35k and below.

edit: other option i was thinking of was to do a new build now minus the new GPU so use the 2080 Super and get a 9800x3d. Then wait for the supers but feels like i am just justifying spending more than i should by splitting it into two purchases.

Yeah the 9800x3D is a good gaming chip, but is it worth the price premium over the 9600x or the 9700x? Especially if you're only going to be using a 9070xt or equivalent on it.

at what stage would it be worth going for the 9800x3d? only on a 5080/5090 card? for reference playing on a 1440p screen

Playing on a 4070Ti, I upgraded from a 3700X to a 7800X3D and saw about a 30% increase in FPS and general system responsiveness.

You don't need an X3D CPU, but on the other hand, you also don't not need an X3D CPU. They really are magic.

Well you did jump a few generations there :-), plus platform and memory speed increases :-). You could've just jumped to a 5700X3D though some games would prefer the 7800X3D a lot run almost the same at 1440p

Really comes down to the GPU as that will almost always be the limiting factor with gaming.

However, the 5700X3D is not as fast as the 7800X3D. It's also pointless buying into an EOL platform at this point.

Yeah sure, but you still had the AM4 platform and the 5700X3D would've given you a few more years :-).

Sure, but the 7800X3D made more sense. Get out of the old stuff while it still has value and get into the new stuff with all it's delicious improvements.

If one has the bucks to spend, then would the 9800x3D not be a good buy in terms of future proofing and delaying the next CPU and motherboard upgrade? In 3-4 years time he then only needs to replace the GPU.

That's the problem with pc's, if you wait... you will always wait for the next best thing.

Go midrange now and wait for the next good upgrade/release
Go high end now and wait for the next big upgrade/release
Go cheap and tough it out for the next big upgrade/release

End of the day, buy what fits your needs/budget. ( or something that has at least one upgrade path that fits in your budget AND you know for a fact you will actually only upgrade that one small bit later.)

You will never have the best if you cant just go out and buy the top of the range every year or 2 (depending on new tech release cycles) ..which means 99% of us in ZA :P unless you ride the gravy train

I fear that this might become a reality.

If this Act passes, nations like ours will be screwed for the latest and greatest. Scarcity drives prices like nothing else. AMD is oddly quiet on this... As of late, AMD has been warming the seat for the Trump administration. This won't be limited to GPUs. All forms of ASICs, anything that can compute, will be included. For once, there is something that could hurt us "foreign" consumers. I have an idea that this will be pushed hard. What concerns me most is the review of warranties for nations like ours.

On X, Americans and Canadians are very supportive. How true the sentiment is, I don't know. I am starting to trust the internet, and opinion less by the day.

Argh put in new fans and disrupted the cables argh, also think I've got two wrong away around.
Not sure what to do about the gpu cable either now20250907_130057.jpg
