That's bad news for me as well, I just had a quick look around and don't really see anything closer to the original R999, with the one they recommended you do at least score more USB 3.0 and all 6 SATA ports being SATA3 with the addition of the newer chipset supporting Intel RTS.

Yeah, I am pretty sure I will go for that one then. The others I saw were R200 less more or less but had 2X SATA3 and 2XSATA2 etc. This way that board should also be able to last longer.
 
Looks good to me, will be a major upgrade from the MicroServer.

I still remember back when you were new around here and I helped you setup Plex Server etc to get the MicroServer going.

Ok so I am going to be ordering the items today as have been quite busy this week.

Just have a question regarding the PSU - do you get any PSU's that have more than 4 SATA connectors? I currently have 4x HDD's but plan to add another one or two next month and don't want to have a problem when're I don't have enough power connectors.

Any suggestions? This one caught my eye: Corsair CX Series - or is that way overkill?
 
Decisions decisions...

Does it make sense for me to search for a 1155 mobo and buy an i5 3470 than going for say the 1150 mobo and chip Intel G3258?

Ignore this - decided rather for 1150 and G3258 and if I want to later, I can upgrade to an i5.

Those two boards look to be basically the same thing except for the chipset, I would go for the Z97 if I had to choose.

And the PSU is way overkill, the Corsair VS450 you wanted earlier will still be fine, remember it has 4 Molex connectors, meaning you just buy Molex to SATA splitters and you can add another 8 HDD's on top of the normal 4.

Basically going to be my new Plex server.

This is the current build I am looking at now:

CPU: Intel G3258

Mobo: ASRock Z97 Anniversary (was goingfor Fatality one but can't overclock if I want to)

Case: Cooler Master N300 (can take up to 7 drives)

PSU: Corsair VS450w - just need to make sure it can accommodate 7x HDD's

Do you think that is the best I can do for R3700? Or would you change anything? Want to order today.

Was thinking that but there is R100 difference - would you still go for the VS450?

Sounds good.
 
With the VS450 you can have a total of 12 drives and with the CX 430 a total of 10 drives, both of them also have enough power to handle it. Just buy one or two of these:

Other boards Ive seen with min 6x SATA connectors are around R1200ish so for an extra R200 I can get a board that will allow me to overclock the CPU if I ever need to down the line.
