New TV decision - advice needed

Thanks man ;)

LCDs have their own 800 pound gorilla: limited Response Time, which causes motion blur. Just like Plasmas, this was a significant problem for LCDs many years ago, and we’ll demonstrate that it too is no longer an issue now

I agree that high end LCDs do a good job, much better job than low/mid end which is what comprises 80 - 90%+ of the market and peoples' homes due to affordability. Still does not match plasma, and any purist or sport lover will tell you this. And the main point is that the consumer does not have to pay thousands more, because there is a better solution that is in fact cheaper.

Plasma's are great but they're dead, nobody is making them any more so we will have to stick with LCD till OLED matures and becomes a more popular alternative. If Samsung still made their 51" FHD 5 series plasma's I'd buy one in a heartbeat over a comparable LED. The screen uniformity issues in most LED screen can be quite annoying as is their motion handling. I have to say the UHD TVs are amazing though, especially with upsampled HD sources. Plasma's on the other hand, emit a lot of heat and the cheaper ones are very reflective like mirrors which can be annoying a brightly lit or reflective room.

I replaced my Sony in December with a Samsung 55″ H7000 Series 7 UA55H7000. The out-of-the-box configuration of the TV was complete crap - I adjusted based on this: http://www.naschenweng.info/2014/12/24/color-calibrating-samsung-55-h7000-series-7-ua55h7000/

The 55" is massive in comparison to the 46" I had and I am actually glad I did not go with the 60" as the 55" is about the right size. The 3d-option is cool, but I doubt that I will ever use it (tried it once, but was only really good in a completely dark room). FWIW - I would never go with a curved display - I found it not to be that great (especially when you sit to the side of the TV).

Just a warning: I have never watched TV on the Samsung and heard that the motion blur is bad (one guy in Australia followed my tuning suggestions and he said it is substantially better after applying the settings). I am very happy with the quality of streaming, HD content and gaming. I do think all those Samsung apps are garbage and have only used them once.
