Is there ANY way to upgrade the primary storage or is it soldered to the mainboard?

The 16GB model is becoming pretty useless after Windows 8.1 updates, with free space dwindling to 100s of MBs now, despite minimal software installation, a 64GB SD Card and daily disk cleanups.

Thinking of flogging this and looking for a 32GB / 64GB variant, if they exist.

Quite a nice little tablet, apart from the charger and available storage space.

The recovery partition takes up quite a bit of space. I am going to back it up onto a flash drive, then clear it off.

I tried that on a 8.1 and killed it. Having said that if you do get this right a "how to" would be greatly appreciated as well as ideas on how to free up the 3 gigs for the Windows 10 update.
 
I'm currently thinking of purchasing the 10.1" model (assuming they are still available) then allowing only update KB3035583, the update that installs the "Get Windows 10" icon.

After reserving a copy of Windows 10 I intend to put the tablet in a drawer until the updates are released.

I realise that I am being incredibly naïve - after all, we are talking of Microsoft and Windows installs here :) - so can any of the experts point out the flaws in my naivety ?

Any assistance in preventing me making an idiot of myself will be much appreciated.

I have no idea, but since I am pretty desperate for space, I will format and try that.
 
IT WORKED!!
Did a fresh install, turned off automatic updates. Then only selected KB3035583 to update. Installed it and rebooted. Got nothing, then I ran the batch file I got here and selected option 1 then option 2. I then got the update icon.

Here is a screenshot showing the glorious 5 GB of free space and windows 10 update.

Thanks for the batch file link.

I purchased a new machine this morning (now with 32GB, leaving +19GB free). Performed the setup, including wireless. Downloaded the update & batch files, ran (as you did) options 1 & 2.

Low & behold: the icon was there !
 
I am attempting it.
It appears to need about 3 GB of free space.

I am about 46% complete.
 
I've been running Win10 Technical Preview on my Nextbook 10" for a couple of months. Works well, but not much space left over for other stuff. I think there's currently about 2GB unused space available, which I might be able to squeeze to 3GB.
 
I just finished updating Windows 10 to Build 10240 and cleaned up the drive. Now there's a whopping 7GB free of the 16GB drive, which is the most I've had so far.
 
Slingshot is your recovery partition still in place or did you succeeded in deleting it?
 
It's still in place. I thought I removed it but just checked the partitions and it's still there. It does seem to be empty though.

What is the size of the recovery patition now? What was the process that you use in shrinking the recovery parttion?
 
It's 300MB, not sure if that's the original size or not. Been a while since I installed Win10.
