News server related queries

I cancelled my Giganews account and went with Astraweb.

They have an unlimited option for $15 a month. Unlimited speeds, unlimited downloads, 20 connections!

It's schweet! :p
 
Is Internet Solutions throttling Giganews?

I ran some tests and can only get download speeds of 40 KB/s when using IS.

When I switch to my Telkom account I get full speeds - 420 KB/s

oh, well at least Astraweb works... and they are cheaper anyway :p

I'm getting full speed on Giganews with IS on 4mb line.

The Astraweb's pricing looks good, I'm going to check it out.

That's weird. It does it on two different computers here at home. But my Telkom connection works fine. :confused:

I seem to max out at around 384 KB/s with Astraweb (20 connections), so if you prefer Giganews 420 KB/s (10 Connections) then you better stick with them.

You can get it for $11 a month.

Follow this link. 20 connections, free SSL, no data download limits, 285 days retention. Been using them for close to a year now.

Even better :D Currently paying $25 with Giganews - 10 connection, no SSL.

@Garyvdh - I normally leave my downloads to run during the night so the speed difference shouldn't matter much
 
Can you give me more details as to how Giganews works and why do I need it with uncapped? Will torrents not work?

Also what pings do you get on Uncapped Fibre??

Giganews and Astraweb obviously only work with International accounts.

You could use Torrents, but you will download much much more at full speed with these News Servers (and you don't have to share in return).

With Torrents you have a slightly wider selection, but all the best stuff is on the News Servers.

In fact, there is nothing stopping you from running both simultaneously, Torrents and the News Servers.
 
Can anyone tell me why my NZB's are downloading at 0.7kbps? I am trying to download an NZB which isn't cached.. but it still shouldn't be that slow. Downloading from newshost.. I am with IS..

I thought people here were using IS and SAIX servers. Those are not an option to me on iBurst. So far I had no problems with Astraweb.

And I originally got the $11 offer on a forum which I am not going to share on MyBB (NSFW). But there are now links to the offer on other sites as well (newsleach for example).

Ok, well.. thanks anyway for the link. It's a great bargain. Hopefully, I can sign up again at the end of the month ;)
