Is that right however? Cause I've been trying the whole weekend, with tons of different files from different NZB sites. I just can't think that IS will not even budge once on any of them. Or are there more settings that I'm missing?
I'm using Alt.Binz btw.

And thanks for the tip gripen, but assume that its only attainable through telkominternet ?

To use the IS news server you need an IS ADSL account. Same for SAIX.
All the Telkom ISP accounts are SAIX accounts and thus the IS news server won't "work" on them.

You can try the IP for the IS server which is 196.26.208.123. Still port 119, maximum of 5 connections. You can also enable the "ARTICLE cmd" on the IS server, this tends to help when grabbing files that are not cached.

I was one too! :D Was watching the countdown on their site until it hit 10am, then the site almost came to a stand still with with the rush!
But I think there were only 400 invites, according to the info in the upper corner on the sign-up page.

And thanks Loot! I'll give it a try tonight.

Is the IS News server down again? This is becoming a regular pain in the butt...

Tip for any people using the IS server with AltBinz:

Go into the Setup, on the Connections tab there is a setting: "Retry count". Mine was 0 by default. Set it to something like 3 or 5.

This should sort out getting the error: "430 Don't have it" which leads to missing blocks in grabbed files (and missing blocks lead to requiring PAR files which use extra megs). I found this out now after a download of about 300 blocks was missing like 40!

EDIT: Sorry, blocks are PAR file related terminology :p

The Servers Are Free

The servers are free and open, they are run by our ISPs, Telkom, and IS.

The only requirements u need to get connected is to be on ADSL...

The next thing u need is to get NZB files... they are like the .torrent of the usenet world (news)

You can get the NZB files from:

Newshost - Undoubtedly the best community for NZBs in SA
Newzleech - Contains EVERY NZB Possible (literaly, its an index of the entire stream that gets uploaded all around the world)

OR

My Favorite, a new website called www.nzbsa.co.za

Its still new so not as many NZBs but we are working very hard to upload! Make a request and it will be filled, also I will help you set up your usenet if you join thr, my username is pierrehugo xD

I have a good question...

I have just been forced by Telkom to purchase their 3G package. (due to line theft - over 200 in 10 years - they have since cancelled service, still billing me a phone line + ADSL line).

I have been downloading from news.saix for a while - worked perfect on ADSL.

My question is this:

Can I still use news.saix.net with my Telkom DO 3G package? It's still Telkom - isn't it?

Saix:

news.saix.net
Port: 119
Connections: 2

That's all I've ever had to use.

Also are you using Alt.Binz or Grabit?
