LOL I am fairly familiar with the process ;) But the bucket and dripping analogy answered the question. Must be quite a frustrating process to cache stuff then but people are using it so it can't be that bad. Do people do this co-operative downloading on SAIX?

When are we going to get a feature in the clients that can randomise the download queue.. Man that would really help otherwise you all cache the same stuff at the same speed.

IS Servers Status

Is there a website somewhere that will give IS server status's to see
when the news server is down and when they expect it to be back up?

After using SAIX news server for the past 6 months and now having to use the IS news server so far this month... all I can say is that the IS news server is an utter piece of garbage, in terms of speed and reliability.

no, unfortunately not :(

It is really just a bonus free service from IS. Not really something we pay for (unless you want to argue that it is included in your fees). The days of ISPs offering free News Servers are dying out. so be thankful for what you have. Giganews is nice, but it is a paid service. IS and SAIX are free.

Hey, i know this is a tadd off topic...but...seeing that us newer folk can't access the newshosts ever since invites were stopped, I was wondering how well the local torrent sites work? Are they worth getting a local account?
And which are the ones worth trying out?

On monday the 11th of may registrations to newshost will be open from 10am to 10pm... only 500 registrations will be open though so you better hurry. ;)

+1.
But I think it is because most users are using the IS local from guys like Webafrica and Openweb for R130/30gb.
Saix Local is to expensive to buy 30Gb and most people just use their Telkom Local cap after their Int cap is finished. So Saix is probably not as busy until the end of the month.

Thanks guys!

Let me get this straight however (since I'm newbie'ies).

I don't actually need Newshost to download via the IS or SAIX servers?
I can get the NZB's from an international site, and still download via IS or SAIX using local-only BW (its just going to be heck slow due to it being uncached)?

Or am I being a bit whacked in the head?

Yes, you are right... you can use any NZB site... local or international. Just Google for free NZB sites. The only benefit of Newshost is that it is accessible vial local only internet (without having to go to the international) and you can try and see what has been cached locally (but the cached stuff doesn't stay cached for very long). In my opinion Newshost should cut down on the type of stuff people can list and restrict it to movies, episodes and games. That way the stuff will stay cached for longer. You got too many newbies and freaks uploading all kinds of crap NZBs and that just screws up the caching.

merlins-portal. If you have succesfully registered please let me know how you did it because I have tried 9 different e-mail addresses with 20 different usernames and everytime it tells me that I can not create multiple accounts.
**shouts @ the screen "I HAVE NEVER CREATED A ACCOUNT"

Hmm, I'm having the same problem with Merlins-Portal. Anyone got a fix for this yet?
The only other one that i can find thats free and works is newsleech.com, are they any good?

Nope. I still could not register. You can use NZB Matrix but if you do not donate then you can only get NZB's up to 20 days retention.

I have never used newsleech but hear they are okay.
