Someone should put up a reverse proxy in RSA for www.newzleech.com -- would solve a lot of problems.. Pretty easy to do provided you have the bandwidth on the international side.

The download speeds get worse and worse towards the end of the month when people start using their local bandwidth or remaining cap on the News Servers. So it will definitely get worse around this time of the month... especially on weekends. I assume you are using the IS news Server?

Well, one good thing about Mweb dropping uncapped... I downloaded more in 15 days than the most I've downloaded in a month :D

Hi

I am fairly new to this forum, so nobody here knows me. I hav been goin through various posts, cheking out info on news servers, as I hav been looking for settings to get the most out of them. That said.

Why are South Africans always a bunch of selfish ???????? (you decide wot goes there).

I dont know exactly what the story with newshost is, but why must anything, ie internet related, always hav to be a closed circle. Someone created a local nzb site...... then only certain people can benefit.

Getting nzb files are not a hassle, there are international sites where on can get these, so whats the point of the closed circle?????

The one benefit, is obviously that people can see what has been downloaded via the local servers.
Non newshost local internet users are still going to download from news servers if they know about them, and figure out how to use them......

My point......... People want to get stuff for free (movies, games, etc.), but dont want to share that which they have not paid for. Seems unfair to me.

The majority of the content of the IS and SAIX news servers are downloaded by the said local nzb site... and probably in an attempt to curb overuse of it they decided to close the invite system so no more people could join the "circle"....

Kinda pointless, when the servers are going to be used either way........ and who decides who should and shouldnt use wot does not belong to them?

Hi

I am fairly new to this forum, so nobody here knows me. I hav been goin through various posts, cheking out info on news servers, as I hav been looking for settings to get the most out of them. That said.

Why are South Africans always a bunch of selfish ???????? (you decide wot goes there).

You are looking at if from the wrong perspective. Some guy decided to start his own local NZB site. It's his site, and he is under no obligation to share it with anyone. He decided to share it with people, and thus enabled invites. He then decided that was enough people and closed invites. It's his site, he covers the local bandwidth cost of hosting the site.

...My understanding is that the more people download, the longer files will be cached, which in turn means the more everyone benefits. Even if that were not the case, most of the users are benefitting from the fact that somebody somewhere created the nzb files, then posted it on some international site, which someone from SA downloaded, then posted it on newshost (or whatever other service it may be)...

Your analogy that the more people that download, the longer things get cached is completely incorrect. The more people that use the servers, the wider the variety of things that get downloaded (Not everyone likes House/RnB/Rock/Metal, some new guy starts using the server and he listens only to blue-grass for example.) So the more people there are, given a constant cache size (which is not an unreasonable assumption given past experience of the local servers) the shorter things are cached.

In summary:
1. No one is stopping you from using news servers, feel free.
2. If you are expecting news servers to be as easy as torrents or any P2P service, you are starting off with the wrong viewpoint - news servers require considerably more user interaction (esp. with PARs, etc)
3. NewsHost is owned by an individual. It's his. He pays for it, and is under no obligation whatsoever to share it.
4. The address for IS is news.is.co.za on port 119 (5 connections allowed)
The address for SAIX is news.saix.net on port 119 (2 connections allowed)
The address for CyberSmart eludes me right now, but it is somewhere on this forum.
5. To learn about news servers (USENET) try this page.
6. To get NZBs try merlins-portal.net or newzleech.com
