Pretoria cop arrested for Rape

A warrant officer arrested for allegedly raping a teenage girl in Mamelodi, north of Pretoria, would appear in the Mamelodi West Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) said.

The policeman was out on bail for two other child rape cases at the time of his arrest, said Ipid spokesman Moses Dlamini.

He said the 48-year-old officer was expected to bring a formal bail application, which Ipid would oppose.

The man is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl in April this year.

Dlamini said the teenager's guardian asked the community police forum to talk to the girl when she refused to do her chores.

The officer fetched the girl from her house, and indicated to the family that she would be attended to by a female officer.

Instead, he took her to a fast food outlet and bought her a meal, before taking her to his house and raping her. He went back to fetch her the next day.

"As he was preparing to rape the girl, she managed to escape after asking to go to the toilet," said Dlamini.

She reported the matter to police she came across while fleeing.

Dlamini said the warrant officer handed himself over to police a week later.

He was already out on bail on two child rape cases in KwaMhlanga in Mpumalanga, and in Mamelodi East.

Dlamini said the girls in the two cases were aged eight and 12-years-old.

Four Years in Juvenile center for Teen Rapist

A Hayview youth has been sentenced to four years' imprisonment in a juvenile care centre for raping an 11-year-old girl.

"If you were older than 17, the court [would have] no option but to give you life imprisonment" Nelspruit Regional Court magistrate Andre Geldenhuys told him, according to a Sapa correspondent.

"You will remain at that centre until January 29, 2017, when you turn 21-years-old," Geldenhuys told him, adding that he was a risk to society.

"According to a report from social workers, you are unfit to [be around] children," he said.

The youth was under the supervision of his parents and attended school before his conviction. He would now be held in the juvenile section of the Barberton Correctional Services until his transfer to the care centre.

Geldenhuys said it appeared the youth had behavioural problems. He was not making good progress at school, and was distracting other pupils with attention-seeking behaviour.

He alluded to accusations that the youth had stolen money from his disabled uncle, who was unable to stop him.

Geldenhuys said the court had heard that the youth smoked dagga and drank alcohol while living with his 11-month-old daughter and her mother, who was pregnant with his second child.

"When drinking alcohol, you got in bed after 3am, not thinking of the small child also in bed."

The youth's mother was unable to help raise her grandchild, as she lived and worked in White River.

"Your elder brother, who is a Christian, was also not home, but lived in Johannesburg, leaving you in charge of your family.

"Instead of showing responsibility, you disrespected adults, did as you wished and stole other people's belongings," Geldenhuys told him.

Although the teenager's background indicated that he had not received proper parental care, he had also made "the wrong decisions and met up with the wrong people".

This was evident as the rapist was doing his Grade Eight at the age of 17, while his elder brother had managed to complete his schooling.

Geldenhuys said his victim was doing well at school, despite suffering severely from her ordeal.

During sentencing, he said the rapist deserved a second chance in life, but ruled that his name would be added to the sexual offenders' register.

W Cape Teen raped, dies in hospital

No arrests have been made for the murder of a Western Cape teenager who died in hospital a day after she found raped, The Cape Times reported on Friday.

Captain Frederick van Wyk told the newspaper Anne-Marie Beukes, 19, of Swellendam went to a shebeen last Friday and was found drunk and covered with a blanket the next morning.

"Due to her condition, she was not able to provide a statement to police," he was quoted as saying.

She died on Sunday. A post-mortem reportedly showed that she had been raped.

In February, the nation was outraged when Anene Booysen, 17, was raped, disembowelled and left for dead in Bredasdorp.

She managed to identify her attackers before she died in hospital.

Two men have appeared in court in connection with the crimes.

The sex worker reportedly claimed she was hitch-hiking to Mamelodi when the emergency workers offered her a lift in a municipal rapid response BMW.

According to the newspaper, they demanded sex along the way and threatened to kill her. They took turns raping her, then sped off, leaving her in the veld.

The Pretoria News reported that security guards near the scene alerted the police, and rape charges were laid at the Silverton police station on Sunday.

Emergency services spokesman Johan Pieterse told the newspaper the men had been suspended, and that an internal probe was underway.

It was reported that the two men, aged 33 and 34, appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Tuesday when the matter was struck off the roll pending further investigation.

KZN Man Sentenced for Child Rape

A KwaZulu-Natal man was sentenced by the Vryheid Regional Court to 18 years in jail for raping a 12-year-old girl, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.

Nkosinathi Nxumalo, 22, was sentenced on Thursday, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

Nxumalo raped the girl, his neighbour, in September last year while she was on the way to a shop. He threatened her to not tell anyone. The girl's mother discovered the crime after she saw the girl was "not walking properly".

Provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Mmammonye Ngobeni welcomed the sentence.

"Our FCS [Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences] units in the province of KwaZulu-Natal will continue with their good work and bring those rapist to book," she said.

Ngobeni encouraged women and children to report crimes to the police.

KZN Nurse arrested after rape

A KwaZulu-Natal nurse has been arrested for allegedly raping a patient at a clinic near Nquthu, police said on Friday.

Captain Thulani Zwane said the 30-year-old man was arrested at work on Thursday.

A 19-year-old teenager was raped while being examined. The teenager reported it to her school teacher and a rape docket was opened at the Nquthu police station.

The man is expected to appear in the Nquthu Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Four Arrested in Limpopo for Rape and Murder

Four men have been arrested for raping and murdering a 23-year-old woman in Majeje Village, near Phalaborwa, Limpopo police said on Tuesday.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the woman was on her way home from a tavern when the men attacked her and took turns raping her, before leaving her for dead on Sunday.

"The badly hurt victim managed to tell the police the name of one of the suspects before surrendering her life at a local hospital," he said.

Mulaudzi said one of the men was arrested outside Makhado on Sunday, and the other two in the village on Monday. The fourth man was handed over to the police by his parents on Tuesday.

All four were expected to appear in the Lulekani Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

KZN Prosecutor Arrested for Rape

A prosecutor accused of raping a woman was arrested in Dundee, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old man, who is employed at the Dundee Magistrate's Court, was arrested on Tuesday, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

A 23-year-old woman had gone to court with her boyfriend when a prosecutor called her into his office last Thursday.

When the woman was inside the office she was allegedly raped by the man.

She told her boyfriend what happened and the incident was reported to police.

The man offered to pay the woman R3000 to withdraw the case against him after finding out that he was being investigated by police, Zwane said.

The woman reported the matter to police and the man was arrested.

He faces charges of rape, corruption, and defeating the ends of justice.

Limpopo Child Rapist sentenced to Life

A Limpopo man has been jailed for life by the Polokwane Regional Court for raping his seven-year-old niece, police said on Wednesday.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said 36-year-old Elvis Lebang was sentenced on Tuesday for the crime committed in April last year.

While visiting the girl's home, he took her to an abandoned house and repeatedly raped her. Local residents found her crying and bleeding. She identified her uncle as the rapist and he was arrested.

Tow arrested for rape in Zola, Soweto

Two men have been arrested for rape and attempted rape in Zola, Soweto, Johannesburg police said on Monday.

On Sunday night an 18-year-old woman was raped, allegedly by two men in a house in extension one, spokesman Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

The woman had been drinking with the men. Later they told her to take her clothes off and raped her.

"These men fell asleep [after the rape] and she managed to leave the house and run to the police station. Police found one of the men still asleep."

The 39-year-old man would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court soon on charges of rape. The other man was still at large.

Another man was arrested in Zola North for attempted rape on Sunday night. The 25-year-old entered a 12-year-old girl's bedroom.

"The man got into her bed and started touching her private parts and she screamed," Makhubela said.

Her relatives in the house woke up and caught the man. He would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court soon on charges of attempted rape.

Eastern Cape Nurse arrested for rape

A male nurse was arrested on Monday for allegedly raping a patient at Butterworth Hospital, Eastern Cape police said.

Captain Jackson Manatha said the victim alleged she was raped on Saturday shortly after midnight.

She was woken up and told to go to the bathroom, where she was raped.

"The victim further alleged that she was raped for [a] second time by a man outside the toilet."

The man was expected to appear in the Butterworth Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on a rape charge.

Cape Town Baby Rape Case Postponed

A man accused of raping a four-month-old baby appeared in the Parow Regional Court on Tuesday.

The 54-year-old man's trial was postponed until August 29 because the magistrate was ill.

The State alleged that the baby's mother left her in the man's care on the night of October 19, while she went out, the Cape Argus reported.

A short while later, the constant crying of a baby was heard by a traffic officer living in the same complex.

The officer reportedly went to investigate and knocked on the door for about 10 minutes. When the man eventually opened the door, he claimed to have been sleeping. The baby was inside, wrapped in a blanket.

According to the newspaper, the baby's mother later changed her daughter's nappy and found blood.

She was checked medically and was found to have been raped.

The man, from Durbanville, has not yet been asked to plead.

Convicted Rapists Freed after Judge 'erred'

A bench of Supreme Court of Appeal judges has overturned the verdicts and sentences handed down in separate cases by a Limpopo judge to two convicted rapists, Beeld reported on Wednesday.

The appeal court judges found, in both cases, that "serious irregularities" and "ignorance" had occurred on the part of Judge K Hetisani, who had heard the cases in the Thohoyandou High Court in Limpopo.

In the first case, Tshifhiwa Nemavhola was immediately released.

Hetisani had sentenced him to life in prison for raping a 13-year-old girl.

The appeal court judges found that Hetisani had made his judgement without the state having proved its case.

In addition, Nemavhola had an alibi who placed him 170km from the rape on the day of the crime -- at his place of employment.

Hetisani, without a calendar, calculated mentally that it had been a Saturday, and that Nemavhola could therefore not have been at work.

The appeal judges consulted a calendar and determined that the relevant date was, in fact, a Wednesday.

In the second case, Masotaha Tshilidzi had pleaded guilty to a charge of indecent assault, but not guilty to a charge of rape. The prosecutor had accepted this plea.

However, Hetisani committed a "serious irregularity" by refusing to accept the plea.

In both cases, both convictions and sentences were set aside immediately.

Hetisani, who had since retired, could not be reached by Beeld for comment.

Man held for daughter's rape

A man suspected of raping his 12-year-old daughter turned himself in to police on Wednesday, Limpopo police said.

Constable Thapelo Lesufi said the man, 45, allegedly repeatedly raped the girl since last year.

"It is alleged that the abuse of the child was previously reported to the mother by the child, but that nothing was done. The latest incident took place on June 1."

The child told her school teacher about the alleged abuse, who reported it to police.

The man would face rape charges in the Nebo Magistrate's Court on Friday.

It's nothing to do with our society and is all about our "tradition and culture" which is sacrosanct and not to be criticised.

Ukuthwala is all about the kidnapping and rape of young (often under-aged) girls.

For nearly a century Tshaka, Mozilikazi, Dingaan, Mantatisi and others raided neighbouring tribes and seized their women and cattle for the purposes of rape and loot.

JZ783 sees himself as the current Tshaka with identical morals (or lack of) and nobody is able to see what the future is.
