Paedophile Coach Sentenced for Rape
A former high school sports coach from Springs on the East Rand has been sentenced to an effective 21 years in prison for raping two boys and sexually assaulting three others, Beeld reported on Tuesday.
Jacques Strydom, 29, was arrested in 2009 after five pupils at the Huguenot High School lodged complaints against him.
He pleaded guilty to all five charges.
On Monday, just one of Strydom's victims was at the Benoni Regional Court when magistrate Ian Cox sentenced him.
The boy, who was in Grade 8 when the incident happened, became emotional when Cox pointed out that the victims would have to live with the consequences of Strydom's crime for the rest of their lives.
"You used your career to position yourself close to children, to satisfy your own sexual urges," Cox said.
He said Strydom had targeted vulnerable or problem children, and groomed them for abuse.

KZN Rapists Jailed
Sixteen convicted rapists were jailed in KwaZulu-Natal in the past two weeks, police said on Tuesday.
They were among 173 people arrested for rape over the period, Captain Thulani Zwane said.
The 16 were sentenced by various courts in the province to a combined total of 103 years in jail. One of them was sentenced to life imprisonment for a rape he committed in December 2012. The arrests were made between June 14 and 28.
"Maximum sentences were handed down in most cases," Zwane said.
Provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni said: "The sentences handed down will send a clear message to like-minded would-be offenders that the police will trace, arrest, and successfully prosecute them."

NWest Man Appears for Rape
A man accused of raping a 41-year-old woman in Photsaneng village has appeared in the Rustenberg Magistrate's Court, North West police said on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old man appeared on Monday on charges of rape and pointing a firearm.
He was expected to bring a formal bail application next Monday, said Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone.
A man broke into the woman's home while she was sleeping at 3am on Sunday, by cutting a chain on a locked door.
"He allegedly threatened the woman with a firearm and demanded money from her.... The woman refused to give the suspect money and he raped her while pointing her with a firearm," Mokgwabone said.
He then ran away, but turned himself in hours later when he heard that the police were looking for him.

An 11-year-old girl was raped and stabbed several times in her Soweto home on Wednesday, Gauteng police said.
"The girl was sleeping in a house in Bram Fischerville with her little brother when she was attacked on Wednesday morning," Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.
A man entered the house and raped the girl before stabbing her three times in the upper body.

Alleged rape of Teen by cop 'Disturbing'
The alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl by an off-duty policeman was "disturbing," the Justice Department said on Sunday.
"Minister Jeff Radebe is disturbed by the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl from Orange Farm by a police officer. The Minister has condemned the incident especially in view of it being allegedly committed by a law enforcer who is expected to protect citizens," spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga said in a statement.
"This incident flies in the face of government's tireless efforts of addressing the escalating rate of sexual violence against women and children."
News channel eNCA reported that the incident took place in Kliprivier, south of Johannesburg, last week.
The teenager and her cousin were walking along a pathway when a man driving an Opel Corsa cornered them.
They said he used pepper spray on them, before forcing the blinded girl into his car.
He then parked in a ditch in Kliprivier where he allegedly raped her.Two passing policemen grew suspicious when they spotted the vehicle in the ditch.
They stopped to investigate, and caught the policeman in the act.
The policeman who has since been arrested, faces charges of statutory rape.
He would appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on Tuesday to apply for bail, eNCA reported.
Mhaga said Radebe has assured the girl's family that "justice will not only be done but manifestly seen to be done."
"Counseling services will be provided to her as is the practice to all victims of sexual violence," he said.

A sangoma convicted of raping two teenage girls has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Mthatha Magistrate's Court, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said on Thursday.
Nakhehle Dumba, 40, was sentenced on Wednesday for raping the girls, aged 14 and 15, spokesman Luxolo Tyali said in a statement.
The girls' parents took them to Dumba for treatment, but he raped them three times and hit them with a sjambok.
"Giving their evidence in court, the girls disclosed that after their ordeal they could not walk and one of them has since had gynaecological complications," Tyali said.

Three Arrested for Gang Rape
Three alleged rapists have been arrested in Dutywa in the Eastern Cape, police said on Monday.
"Three suspects, [a] 22-year-old and two [others] aged 18 have been arrested following the gang rape of a 24-year-old woman at Sofuthe location, Ngcingwane village in Dutywa," said Captain Jackson Manatha.
The woman was sleeping with two other people in a shack on Sunday when the men allegedly attacked her. She was taken to another shack where she was repeatedly raped.
"The suspects allegedly took turns in raping the victim but she identified one of them," he said.
After the incident was reported at the Dutywa police station, police responded swiftly and managed to arrest all three at their homes in Ngcingwane village.
"The suspects will appear before the Dutywa Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on rape charges," said Manatha.

Krugersdorp Rapist gets 28 Years in Jail
A West Rand man has been sentenced to 28 years in prison by the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court for raping and robbing a 13-year-old boy, Beeld reported on Tuesday.
"In prison you can rape prisoners if you feel like it; at least you won't be around little children," magistrate Herman Badenhorst was quoted as telling Neo Molaudzi on Monday.
Molaudzi reportedly attacked the teenager, who is now 14, while he walking to school in September 2012. He threatened the youth with a piece of broken glass and pulled him into an alley where he raped him and robbed him of R10.
According to Beeld, Molaudzi, 22, said he was sorry for the crimes and that he felt "under pressure from the court", but at the same time denied raping the boy.
Badenhorst reportedly said: "You forgot your semen was found on the boy. You have already been convicted, I'm sure you feel under pressure."
Molaudzi had previously repeatedly been convicted of burglary and theft.
"You are clearly a danger and I need you out of the community as long as possible," Badenhorst said.
The newspaper reported that Molaudzi asked for leave to appeal, but Badenhorst refused and said the DNA evidence was overwhelming, the rapist's testimony had been false and he had tried to mislead the court.

One of the women allegedly led the boys into her house, and made one of them have sex with her, telling him they were making a baby, The Star reported.
On Thursday, magistrate Audrey Mpofu found both women not guilty on all charges because the boy who was allegedly raped had difficulty answering questions during cross-examinaton.
An educational psychologist had testified that the boys' mental capacities were of the ages six and eight.

This thread is for stories about actual incident's of reported rape and the resulting court cases.
The FHM incident is only a passing remark of a theoretical nature and already had it's own thread.
What is of more concern to me is that a passing remark of a theoretical nature gets far more comment than actual incidents of rape.
It just goes to show people's priorities concerning rape in South Africa.
I can't make judgements for everyone, but why would people get more upset about those comments than actual incidents were people were really raped?

Serial Rapist Arrested in KZN
A man allegedly responsible for a number of rapes and murders in the Tongaat area, in KwaZulu-Natal, was arrested early Sunday morning, Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa's office said.
"Over the past few months, there have been five murder cases of women that were investigated, who were all lured by a particular suspect through promising to offer them job opportunities," spokesman Zweli Mnisi said in a statement.
"The victims were then raped and murdered around the bushes in the Tongaat area in KwaZulu-Natal."
Through police investigations, a girl believed to be an accomplice of the man was arrested last month, with the man subsequently going on the run.
Between Saturday evening and Sunday morning, police narrowed down their search to Port Elizabeth, where the man was arrested around 3am.
The man had also been linked to three separate murder cases, and other rapes.
He was expected to appear in the Verulam Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Mthethwa commended police for the arrest and their "never give up spirit".
He said the arrest further showed that through the different policing units working together, those that committed crimes would be arrested.
The minister said the government remained resolute in ensuring those who committed crimes against women, children and the elderly would be heavily punished.
This was why Mthethwa had in 2009 instructed that the family violence, child protection, and sexual offences units be re-established to specifically investigate such crimes.

Spokesman Moses Dlamini said the 28-year-old policeman confronted the woman for alleged riotous behaviour on Saturday, while he was on duty.
He parked his police car behind a school, before allegedly threatening her with his service firearm and raping her in the vehicle. The woman opened a case and the constable was arrested the same day.
He was expected to appear in the Worcester Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Dlamini said a 46-year-old police captain would appear in the same court on Monday, also for allegedly raping a woman. She alleged she was raped on June 20 in the captain's official car and that he threatened to shoot her and her son if she reported him.
The captain was arrested on Thursday.

80 year old KZN Woman Raped
An 80-year-old woman has been raped in her Esigodini home in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.
The woman was resting in her bedroom on Monday when she was raped by an 18-year-old neighbour, Lieutenant Joey Jeevan said.
He and the woman's grandson had been watching television, but he disappeared when the 15-year-old went to make tea.
"It is alleged that he then went into his grandmother's bedroom and found the neighbour raping his grandmother," Jeevan said. He called for help.
Neighbours assaulted the youth.
"During the assault, the suspect mentioned that he and the grandson previously raped the granny together," said Jeevan.
Both were arrested and would appear soon in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court.
The youth was in a serious, but stable condition at a local hospital.
The woman was receiving counselling.

An 80-year-old woman has been raped in her Esigodini home in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.
The woman was resting in her bedroom on Monday when she was raped by an 18-year-old neighbour, Lieutenant Joey Jeevan said.
He and the woman's grandson had been watching television, but he disappeared when the 15-year-old went to make tea.
"It is alleged that he then went into his grandmother's bedroom and found the neighbour raping his grandmother," Jeevan said. He called for help.
Neighbours assaulted the youth.
"During the assault, the suspect mentioned that he and the grandson previously raped the granny together," said Jeevan.
Both were arrested and would appear soon in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court.
The youth was in a serious, but stable condition at a local hospital.
The woman was receiving counselling.
