Next Jawug Node

Hi

Since I now own my own home I would like to participate in the JAWUG.

Will be relocating to the new house, in Wilgeheuwel.

What are the benefits of the JAWUG, and say, for arguments' sake, can I create a private cct on it between two points?

Ryder hows the licensing going? looking like you guys are going to get one?
If you do then it could be a nice model to get the rest of them sorted on a similar thing.

www.wug.co.za is down

Is it possible to connect from Mulbarton/Glenvista/Bassonia?

Where can I buy the equipment?

Mother nature and the Telkom Gods have decided the break the ADSL where the server is hosted :-(

join irc channel .. irc.jawug.za.net #wnet channel

Think its back up now.

Come on to irc, the members can offer you some advice as to what equipment to buy. In the meantime, download Google Earth, register your spot. You can also download the kml file, which contains all the nodes and coverage areas (import this into Google Earth)

The ADSL line that site is hosted is is currently down.....

I am sure it will be up soon.... (Telkom)

;)

DBE - when the site is up reg. and log in then plot your house on the software then Download the KML file and check in Google Earth for any Nodes nearby....
If you dont have any big trees around you could link up to 10km so just keep that in mind..
Xarion can get you kit at very reasonable prices and then you know it is the right equipment for the WUG! :D

Rocket-Boy - it is looking good we have verbal hearings on the 11th to state our case so we will just have to wait and see

JTech - all then info is on www.Jawug.za.net and www.Wug.co.za we have lots of activity in the Wilgeheuwel aria so please reg and plot your Location.

Thanks, I'll check the coords in the week since I have very limited internet at home.

Damn, looks like I'm out of luck and out of sight. Anyways I'm considering buying a router (since I have a psp also) to play around with, is the wrt54gl a good one, and is R700 a fair price?

hmm...dunno if anybody would still respond. But i have direct line of sight to northcliff highsite. How much would the equipment cost to setup a node that allows me to connect, as well as other ppl being able to connect to me?

Also, what would the range be for ppl connecting to me? Would ppl in my street just be able to connect via their laptops with just their wifi card?

The Northcliff site is backbone only. No clients are allowed to connect!

In very very special cases, we may consider connecting a client to a backbone highsite, but only if they can offer connectivity for multiple users.

On the other hand, based on your question in the other thread, I don't think anyone would be too keen on having you on the network if you are planning on reselling/sharing your internet with others.

It was just an idea. Didnt say i was gonna do it. And from the response, dont think i will.

If i do connect to the network, my plan is to spend a lil more money to connect my area as well. That is why i asked what the distance is that i will be able to provide.
