please inform me further as i am still confused.

tks, karrin

ppl PLEASE tell me how much a jawgkit costs if any1 knows!!... I look on the pricelist on their site and it says it will be updated on 26 august.. and guess what todays date is today :(

The Wifi kit costs a max of R2000 with external enclosures and antenna (worst case) .. if there is coverage close by, then you can trim off a huge cost and get cheaper antennas.

Linksys WRT54GL (not version 1.1GL).. or WRT54G (version 1 to 4) as the firmware gets replaced.
Antennas
Cables

Thanks Richard, sounds very interesting and i would LOVE to join. The website is a little arb, no contact list etc., and the forums havent been updated in a while. But i think the irc chat will help..
If im on northcliff hill, how much less would it cost? And are there file sharing and gaming servers hosted regurarly on the network? And by the way what frequency band do they use..

the easiest is to join the Web IRC www.wug.za.net, or irc.jawug.za.net #wnet - Northcliff is a backbone node and is on 5Ghz. but there quite a few option to connect to peers in the area. Get Google-Earth, get your latitude/longitude, join the channel and speak to the guys. I am there all the time to help.

Hi Richard. Thanks. I have already registered on nodeDB.It says that its the first step. I have google earth and i will get the coordinates..Do you use the same nick on there?

hey guys. i'll be in Jozzie this weekend from Cape Town. Anyone have an ap i can connect to in the Bruma or Bedfordview area. Let me know soonest please.

Hi Mantis,

We have plenty of kit in and around Bedfordview, but we do not offer / sell / provide Internet access at all - That's what you are after by the sounds of it?

i'll be using my own account to connect to the net (PPPoE). Just need a tunnel.

well, anyways, i'm back in CT. ended up using Vodacom GPRS. Not only sooooooo slow but bloody expensive too. Replying to one email and 2 mins chatting on MSN = R20 gone.

"Can't touch this?" I don't want to anymore...

2 mins of chatting on MSN plus an email should not have taken more than 1 megabyte at the most... I often use it for an entire day on IRC - never more than 1mb. Did u disable windows updates, anti-virus updates etc before u connected?

Aw man...
Move to Ireland, and the broadband is great... but there's absolutely no Community network in Dublin. There's the IrishWAN, but for some reason they dont have much interest in the major cities.
Its a bit disappointing :/

/me calculates the cost of getting a Jawug link to Ireland... hmmm...

It should work on shortwave without any fuss ... ireland is positioned almost purrfectly for the curvature to work wonderfully.
Problem is that comminicating at morse bits/second is going to be a little slow.
[as in morse-code]

Soon to be connected

AHHHH kit is on its way, now I just need a place to point my roof mounted microwave oven at :D :D
