Not painting the Wii as a failure, I'm just saying for a lot of people it was a novelty console. My folks even had one, my gran old age home had one.
Yeah you didn't like Wii, I got that. If it makes you feel better, I also didn't like the way that a lot of Wii games were dumbed down compared to N64 and Gamecube. It wasn't so much a console for people like me, but it's just about perfect if you have a family with kids - it was super cheap, durable, and it had an amazing library of family games. Even smaller games like Kirby, WarioWare, New Mario etc are amazing for the children.
:wtf: how can any console game possibly sell better than a bundled game? You can't really paint the Wii as a failure though, because it clearly wasn't.
There were plenty of good games. Mario Galaxy 1&2, Xenoblade Chronicles, Donkey Kong Country, Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Metroid Prime 3, RE:4, Sports Resort, New Super Mario Bros, No More Heroes 1&2. It had an awesome library of family games and I can still find new games for the kids to play.
They missed a lot of opportunities with the wii, at the end it was a great console but took such a long time to get there. Online was terrible at a time when it was getting a lot of focus on other consoles, the retro console was so limited and expensive that people just hacked the will and played games like that. The really good games came out at the end and even then you had to fight to get them. I imported Xenoblade at R600 and could have sold it at a profit but mistakenly only sold it at R450, I have seen others trading that same game years later for well over R600. Thats not the only one - The last story and Pandora's Tower were also great games and just never made it here... and in some cases never made it to the US either. Its like they didn't want people to have it.
I think that's actually the reason for the wii U's failure, no one wanted to take a chance on it.
My Wii still works, about to get my 3 year old started on it. There is still a few games I need to try so always looking to pick them up second hand.
Might actually get one but I think I'll rather just save up for the Switch. It feels like they finally got the concept right... just need to nail the games and not make the same mistakes. I don't care if its just 1st party and Indy devs, people will play that. If they want to make Skyrim and BF then fine but thats not a reason to get the SwitchYeah I totally agree. The first ~3 years of Wii you didn't have so many great games and a lot of wagglefest gimmicks, but it picked up a lot by the end.
Wii U actually had a massive launch with like 30 games and it looked like good 3rd party support. The problems with 3rd parties really came because of the terrible architecture which had a serious CPU bottleneck, and Nintendo's useless marketing. The whole gamepad thing just wasn't well executed at all; it sapped computational power from the machine which was already underpowered, and there were few reasons to justify it. And then I think even Nintendo realized it was a mistake and decided to pull back their focus to the 3DS and the upcoming Switch, so Wii U just languished. But even then, if you pick up Wii U now you have access to a fantastic library of games.
Yeah I've homebrewed mine because it takes like half an hour to do and.. it makes 'finding' games much easier.

Nintendo need to bring back console games like this again. I remember having both of these back in the 80"s.![]()
hahaha this was cool. i had an Orange one.. If Nokia can bring back the 3310, why not lol
Nice.. if you dont want it anymore, send my way![]()
:|Can you afford it?
I had the brown one, on the left
So it releases with 5 games? Sigh Nintendo you've done it again, also the screen gets easily scratched. Zelda runs slower when docked and it only upscales to 900p. The console only has 32 gigs onboard, can't cloud save. Pros it's strangely really good at being portable and the guys say it's probably a better replacement for the DS then the Wii U.
I have that one too in good condition and a spider spraying green one too (Green House).Donkey Kong pic
Okay maybe I should have said 5 games people might actually care about. Also I said the switch would be a better replacement for the DS not the Wii UA quick google
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_Switch_games
I count 15 PAL games on launch day.
The Wii U is certainly not designed to replace the DS. DS is portable, Wii U is not.
Switch is designed to be a middle ground machine, but honestly, with that kind of power and portability come issues. They should really have outsourced the hardware development to a known compact ultrabook company.
