Look at my stats:
Operational Mode G.Dmt.BisPlus
Annex Type AnnexA
Upstream 127500
Downstream 383800
SNR Margin(Upstream) 50.0 dB
SNR Margin(Downstream) 42.00 dB
Line Attenuation(Upstream) 1.0 dB
Line Attenuation(Downstream) 9.0 dB
CRC Errors(Upstream) 0
CRC Errors(Downstream) 0
Latency(Upstream) Fast
Latency(Downstream) Fast

TELKOM tells me I can't get higher then 1Mbps here. WTF I live near the CBD where people get 4Mbps.

Your line attenuation is very low especially the upstream stats.

From past experience with members successfully upgrading, the trick is just to phone until someone is willing to help. Usually by the time you reach the 3rd or 4th consultant on the other end.

Agree with MJ INC, attentuation is on the low for upstream but just keep trying nevertheless :)

I get 3 meg with 60 dB, so you should easily get 6 meg with a decent ADSL router.

His SNR is quite high and very low attenuation so he will easily get 24 meg or higher, seems you misread his SNR stat for attenuation.

^ this.
I've got 4Mbps and a couple months back Telkom's ADSL checker website thing said my exchange supported up to 10Mbps. So I called in to get my line speed upgraded and I was told that my exchange only supported 384k :wtf:
So yeah... just keep calling back until you hear what you want to hear :D

My exchange also is 10 meg enabled but apparently my dslam is on 4 meg so cant get anything above it, even tried calling plenty of times. Guess I have to wait for years before it gets upgraded.

One time I did get a response that my exchange is only 384k enabled then 1 meg enabled lol

I actually think they might be doing this to prevent congestion. I know of others on 10 Mbps on my exchange but for me they say max is 1 Mbps. I also know for a fact that I took one of the last ports available. So my guess is that they're limiting the latecomers so that it doesn't get ruined for everyone.

Well I am on one of the oldest lines on the exchange so doesnt really say much why they would limit me to 4 megs :D

Yes but no one has 10 Mbps on your DSLAM, right? Whereas on mine I know for a fact someone who does but Telkom's DSL checker tells me that my max is 1 Mbps.

No idea havent spoken to anyone else in street, is that only way to find out.

I'm having the same problem as OP at the moment.. just got a new flat and the Techi said i'm right next to the exchange and should get full 10mbps.

The Telkom people over the phone are telling me I can only get 1mbps, even though their own online tool says 4mpbs! Guess I'll just have to keep calling...
