No color through AV reciever

I have a Sony HT-DDW5000 Home Theatre system but I cannot get the cable setup correctly. I have a Samsung 74cm CRT TV. I have the DVD connected to the amp and the amp to the TV, but I do not have any color. Sound is fine.

Should I take the system back and get another one, or am I just missing something with the connections?

Any help please?
 
Yes if I connect any of my 2 DVD players directly to the TV it plays with colour. When I connect either DVD players or both to the Amp I get no colour.
 
What connection are you using for the video signal from the amp to the TV? From what I recall, the Samsung CRT had Component-In (RGB) and S-Video-In connectors. I think the S-Video input was on the left side of the TV.
 
I am using Component-In. I will check for the S-Video input. How much is a S-Video cable? And where can I buy one? And will I need any other cables between the TV and the Amp?
 
Have you checked the cable that you're using for component? Is your DVD putting out component? You can't put composite in and expect component out.

Are you connecting correctly? Red Green Blue cables from DVD connected to RGB on Receiver connected to RGB on TV?
 
I don't think the amp has S-Video in/out put.

DVD players are connected via av cables (no component out on DVD players).

I will try again to connect the amp via av to the TV.
 
Does the amp have place to change signals from PAL to NTSC or does the video go strait through?
 
S-Video cables aren't that expensive - I recall getting mine from Builders Warehouse of all places - Game has them too - get the shortest cable possible, obviously dependent on how far the amp is from the TV. This will only work if your DVD player has S-Video out and your amp has the input...

I had my DVD player hooked to the amp via composite RCA (Yellow/Red/White) initially, and with the same cable type from the amp to the CRT TV. I eventually just had the video (yellow composite) running from DVD player to the amp, then onto the TV via the amp Monitor Out video connection (also composite RCA (yellow)), and the audio via TOSlink Optical from the DVD player to the amp directly - i.e no sound to the TV.

If your DVD player, Amp and TV have component in/out (Red/Green/Blue), then you should be able to connect up all three for the video portion, then TOSlink for the digital audio.

If there's no Component output from the DVD player how do you expect to get component out of the amp? Connect the yellow plugs (composite) and it should work.
 
You are not useing component RGB, just composite yellow RCA.
Works fine when you connect strait from dvd to tv.
Logic dictates the amp is stuffing things up - a setting or a fault.

How about a linkie to a manual / pdf of the amp model so we can see what it's all about?

More likely incorrect wiring.
 
Sorry for going back to basics but I want to start at the beginning.

I connect the yellow, white & red RCA cable from the DVD player av outputs to the DVD video & audio in on the amp. From the amp I connect a second set of RCA cables to the amp: White & red into TV Audio in and the yellow to Monitor Video out. By doing this I get a black and white picture and the sound is perfect.

I have no component video output from the DVD player.

NOTE: Remember to switch off the DVD player, TV and AMP when making these connections, otherwise you can damage the units. You have to cycle the power on/off each time you connect or disconnect.

Which TV input (AV1 or AV2) are you using from the amp- from what I remember, the TV has rear RCA inputs (AV1) and side RCA inputs (AV2).
From the amp, the yellow video RCA plug must run from the "VIDEO 1 (Video Out plug)" output to the TV input - you should be able to use either the back (AV1) or the side (AV2) input on the TV, I used the AV2 on the side input in my setup.
The red and white audio RCA plugs must run from the "VIDEO 1 (Audio Out)" output on the amp to the same TV input set (either AV1 or AV2) as the yellow video RCA connection.

You only use the Monitor Out yellow plug on the amp if you're connecting the uadio via optical or HDMI - if you had an HDMI on the TV, then you would obviously not need the RCA connections.

Also take a look at page 64 and 65 of the manual regarding Changing the Button Assignments for the VIDEO 1 output.

No problem marco79 - give it a bash and see how it goes - the Monitor Out should also be able to be used, but it depends on the other items connected to the amp, and the setup of the amp outputs.

The TV is the same model as mine. The back pannel as two inputs, Input 1 and Input 2, then the side inputs (AV IN2) which include the S-Video connector.
If your DSTV is plugged into the rear Input 1, then you should be able connect the amp to either the rear Input 2 or the side input AV IN2 via the yellow/white/red RCA cables.

You have to make sure thet the TV is set to the correct input, as well as the amp set to the correct output.
I think the TV auto-detects the colour system, based on the input source (PAL vs NTSC)
 
Thanx howardb that sorted out that problem.

Next problem: Amp is connected to rear AV2 input. I want the Xbox to be connected directly to the TV so that my son don't have to put on the amp everytime he wants to play games. The side AV panel gets cancelled out by the rear AV2 input.

Can I get component cables for the Xbox? This will solve all of my problems.
