No Man's Sky

Privateer, Wing Commander, Freelancer - all great games which I miss. Doubt any game will live up to those fond memories, but I will try it if it is only half as good as some say. I just want to see if the stated repetition turns out to be as boring as claimed.

Well... There's always the new game being made by the brain behind those three classics, if you find NMS boring.

So the general consensus so far is that this game is not very good. Will wait for a sale or hopefully ps+ version.

Many positive reviews, many mixed reviews and many in the opinion that the game is too repetitive. Hello Games have stated that two more dlcs will be on the way and that more will be added to the game, although they are already working on their next title.

The main hype from what I could see originated from the very first time the game was shown - that you could lift off from a planet and fly directly into space to another planet with no loading.
That was something not seen before and exciting.
But that alone does not make a game.

The system of procedural generation of planets most definitely means you will see the same thing over and over again with little variety - the game is like 4gigs, how many textures and models can that contain? How many times will you see the same animal but with just bigger eyes or a green nose?

At that size it also means there is nothing more - no story, nothing close to Mass Effect. Without any real drive or mission to achieve it can become boring quickly. Some people will obviously like the repetition, but a lot of people that were waiting for the game to be released and be more than just flying from planet to planet will end up avoiding it.

Now if the next Mass Effect can have the same system of traveling in space - being able to land directly on a planet and fly off into space with no loading times and some variety included I will be in heaven.

General consensus doesn't mean much. Speak to real live humans who are playing the game. That means much. I have and they are loving it madly

So people reviewing and playing the game are not live human beings? I'm not paying R900 for a average game.

General consensus is ANC is the best leadership for SA. Speak to people on the ground. Different story.

What I'm saying is if you want an accurate take on the game find South Africans that are actually playing it and talk to them. I've been chatting to other forum mates that are actually playing NMS since Tuesday's PS4 release and they are loving it beyond what words can describe. That for me is real. Reading a bunch of convoluted reviews from people whom I have no idea about their gaming interests outside NMS is pointless at this stage. For all I know their other favourite game could be COD and they were swept up in the hype. Bad reference point. That's all I'm saying.

I'm just adding another perspective because all the haters are basing their judgements on second hand experience and speculation. I can't wait for the PC version to unlock at 7pm

I've spoken to a few locals already that actually has the game. Most of them are disappointed by it. Maybe people just expected more from it.

According to some tweets today and yesterday, the reason the two guys didn't see each other was because of server issues. This might also just be a BS story, but in all honesty I was interested in the game even without the ability to ever see another player in the game.

Will download tonight and see how it is, but so far everyone I spoke to at work that has the PS4 version is loving it.

Well then you have your answer. The boys I've spoken to are loving it so much they're buying take aways every night so they don't have to cook = more NMS game time. Opposite side of the spectrum for me bud

Started the download at 7 on the dot, but I had to restart steam for the "install" button to appear.

Hype train is blazing down them rails at full speed!

So far, a few hours in, and I'm still loving it. Only been to 3 systems (I'm taking my time in each, exploring each planet). Had a stuff up getting a new ship and needed to repair a bunch of things - and as luck would have it, the bloody moon I was on didn't have any of the resources I needed.

Just found a legit planet full of Gravitino Balls - but comes at a price: incredibly hostile....

No Man’s Sky Shows Off 4k Shots, PC Settings Revealed

You can see all the screens in their proper glory at the Nvidia website. More importantly, the settings screengrabs confirm you can do all the usual stuff to your game, including re-assigning the sprint control, which is important for anyone playing with a controller, since the default for PS4 is pressing down on the right joystick – absolutely unthinkable.

Kerbal space program...

minus 100 points on my gaming cred having never heard of this.
