which was also possible in Frontier: Elite 2 and Frontier: First Encounters. Feck, now I want to play Elite 2.

Very inconsistent performance is ruining it for me.

Been waiting a long time for a game like this. Interest level just hit critical.

On the PS4 the game crashes every 15-20 minutes - this is a known issue but should not be the case at all. When lifting off sometimes you get into orbit. Landing often overshoots and I just noticed now that explored areas from last night have reset as undiscovered on the map, but when landing show discovered.

The kid runs an i7 / 4Ghz / 16GB with 2 980Gtx and gets about 40fps on the highest setting (other games such as witcher/gta etc do a good 90-130fps) - he also said that other people seem to have horrible frame-rate issues - especially when playing on high resolutions.

For a 800 bucks game on PS4 I expected more and will see if I can get a refund - have not been able to play continuously for more than 40 minutes without a crash. Considering that everything is auto-generated, I do not expect so many usability issues. I get the initial hype but 2-3 hours in this wears off very quickly (would be a different issue if this game cost 200-300 bucks) - TBH, there are indie games out there charging a fraction and provide more value/entertainment.

While i haven't played No Man's Sky, and i actually expected exactly the game the reviewer describes there, the game he recommends in the end to get instead (Subnautica) , i agree, that is an awesome game, get it!

If you're looking for a good exploration sandbox game, get Subnautica. A indie game with a indie game price. 92% overall positive reviews. Has survival mechanics, crafting mechanics, building mechanics. Better graphics and better optimized.

Only Beta available.

I requested a refund on PS4 - you can use this link: https://www.playstation.com/en-za/get-help/contact-form/ and then click the "Playstation Network & Account" button and choose "Refund request" from the drop-down. Paying R899 (the actual charge was 921.48 - something I also now queried) for a game of such substandard quality is just a joke.

The kid also just requested a refund on Steam. For the rest of people enjoying it, I suspect that the hype will wear of soon (how many planets do you explore in a rinse&repeat fashion before it gets boring)? If the game was going for R199-R299 this would not be such a bother, but close to a grand, there are better games out.

Based on numerous reviews I've decided I'll leave this game on my wishlist and pick it up with a decent sale, doesn't sound like I'll get my money's worth for R600 atm.

Good luck with actually getting that PS4 request refunded.

I've been there and done that and even getting a response beyond the initial one is impossible.

Also logged a case for incorrect billing before and that also amounted to nothing.

Update: We’re hearing that NMS is running choppily across the board, massive framerate drops, staggering on machines way over spec for the game. One patch has already rolled out that has improved generically low framerates, but it seems the Steam reviews have one theme: juddery, jittery play. That’s certainly been my experience so far, and suddenly a weekend of the bizarre motion sickness it’s inducing in me doesn’t seem such a compelling prospect.

...

It seems that Steam’s servers have coped, with the game downloading fine for me in the seconds after it was unveiled. (Why there was no pre-loading offered absolutely beggars belief, but then suits the completely weird launch.)

Booting the game, I was straight in, no issues, other than the colossal sense of loss that I no longer have my PS4 ship and tools, but at least the knowledge that there’s a planet in the universe already called “Poo poo”.

However, I’m having some tremendous problems with the graphics, really nasty choppy movement, and that’s despite a GTX 1080 on an i7-6700, 32GB RAM. Sorting out what’s causing it is proving enormously tiresome because of the game’s ridiculous insistence on doing all graphics in-game, after its ludicrously slow opening, and then wanting to restart for every change. I could be some bloody time. There also seems to be some sort of wretch mouse acceleration thing happening, and three of us at RPS are having problems running the game smoothly.

...

Update: turning everything down to medium seems to have fixed some of the choppiness, but clearly on the system details listed above that shouldn’t be even close to necessary. And it’s fugly on medium.

One thing about the Poo poo planet that the reviewer named in the PS4 review copy. Sean Murray has made it known that the PS and PC version will not share the same hosted instances.

Sean Murray has opened this Steam support thread,

http://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/7/360672137536640057/

This is interesting though, the reviewers only received an PS4 review copy, and the PC launch date had been slightly delayed. This may indicate that Hello Games was aware that there are issues, the game lacked QA, to quote their own PR,

ISSUES

Sean Murray | August 12, 2016

We’re tracking a number of issues, bugs and crashes that players are reporting, and working to resolve as soon as possible.

The number of people players, and length of average play session, has been far more than our small team could have anticipated. That said, we’re working quickly to adapt.

We sincerely apologise to anyone affected in the meantime.

They sold many pre-orders on the multiplayer hype. Just saying.

I will purchase the game when the DLCs are released, most issues will be patched by then and in a universe that big it will hardly impact my experience on making new discoveries.

It's an early access game...it's going to be like that forever most likely (it's how devs do things these days i guess) , game is more complete than No Man's Sky, trust me.

Cant find a working download link. PM me one please

Subnautica design:

To quote Charlie Cleveland,

http://unknownworlds.com/subnautica/subnautica-multiplayer-when-if-how-and-why/

“Adding multiplayer support to Subnautica is something we would love to do. In fact, the game was originally conceived of as a co-op experience. However, as we started to develop the game, we skipped multiplayer to be able to release the game faster.

Now we find ourselves in a difficult situation: we all really want co-op player, but adding it would take us many months of work. We almost have to start over from the beginning, as it affects everything. If our small team decided to add multiplayer right now, we probably wouldn’t be able to improve any other aspect of the game for a very long time.

So we’re not sure what we’re going to do, but we’re not working on multiplayer right now. The most important thing is to make sure the exploration, crafting and creature experience is working well. Maybe before v1.0 we’ll figure out a way to hire another team to help us with networking, or maybe we’ll release a new version of the game later that supports co-op (like Klei did with “Don’t Starve Together”).”
