No more 40D...

pitty about that 24-105 of yours
that was a nice lens & $

Yeah. Mine was from the batch that apparently had flaring problems. But from the things I've been reading on the forums about sharpness, I was reluctant to have mine serviced for fear that it might come back worse - it was sharp right through, corner to corner, end to end wide open or stopped down.

Boootiful lens. I got one just before Christmas - minimal distortion (well straight lines keep straight at least) - also went the DG route cause one day when I am all rich and stuff .. I'll get a FF camera :p

I considered it but from the reviews I have seen the 10-20mm was sharper, and it happened to be in stock the day I walked into the shop :)

I don't regret getting it. Even if I end up buying a 5D mkII tomorrow and never own another crop body, I'll still have gotten my money's worth from it.

I find the very frustrating to use.

yup - takes some getting use to for a canon user, but becomes easier
I freaked out in the shop
d200 was more difficult than d300/d3, and d90/d700 functionality is an improvement over that again, but the 40d remains the one that came most naturally to me

look at all the things I'm thinking about

Quality: jpeg Large Basic
Mode: Program Mode
Metering: Matrix Metering
Exposure Compensation: -0.7 stops
White Balance: Auto A6
Picture Control: Vivid +3 Saturation
Active D-Lighting: Auto
ISO: Auto

sometimes I think setting iso yourself and shooting raw is easier

Ahh .. yeah the joys of being a Canon person - things are in stock. Sadly us Sony people have to order the lens from New York and it still a) costs less than here and b) arrives quicker :) I want a simple little f2.8 28-70 lens from sigma - but nope .. wait a month and they might get it in .. *twiddle.thumbs*

But I so nearly bought the 5D MkII (in a fit of stockless-no-one-has-toys-for-my-camera rage) :p

ps. Just saw the B&H photo on your flicker-stream koffie and yeah that is where my lens came from. Maybe one day I'll go there in person. Then again it might be financial prudent NOT to go ;)

I agree, the D300 is nicer than the D200, but I find both pretty unintuitive. But that's purely subjective. Initially I looked long and hard at the D300, and looked at it many times, even shot with one for a few hours. But the first time I handled the 40D I know it was the right one.

Different strokes for different folks...

I have my digital P&S and two film bodies, so I'll be OK. Pity I can't use my Sigma 10-20mm on the film body. Or maybe I can? Will try it when I get it back - I don't mind sacrificing a ÂŁ24 body for a greater cause :) A rectilinear 10mm on a FF body would be truly awesome!
You can, it has an EF mount. You prolly will get vignetting though.

Are you sure? It has Sigma's "DC" label, which to me suggests it's EF-S. It also looks like it might penetrate relatively deeply.
Only Canon makes EF-S lenses (those that you have to align with the white dot on the camera). All 3rd party lenses align with the red dot (EF mount).

Sorry to hear about your loss. :((
Last weekend a friend of ours camera was stolen from him. He was doing a wedding and these guys held him up at gunpoint took his kit, car key and wallet. They hit him about a bit then drove off throwing his keys into the grass. Not a pleasant experience at all!

Crime is a very real threat and if possible, appears to be getting worse in SA. I know personally 5 people that have been robbed these last 2 months!
So if you come out with your kit, make sure it that every item is insured.

If you're anywhere your kit should be insured.
