No more 40D...

You didn't look at the photozone reviews before you bought it?

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 USM L @ 16mm:

Sigma AF 10-20mm f/4-5.6 HSM EX DC @ 10mm:

16mm on FF would give you the same field of view as 10mm on a 1.6x crop body, right? Given my experience with my EF lenses on both the 40D and film Rebel, I would say that for the same lens, barrel distortion is much more pronounced on the full frame. For example, the 24-105 shows hardly any barrel distortion at 24mm on the 40D - at least not enough to be easily visible in my photos, even architecture photos. But on the film body the distortion is fairly apparent. Enough that a lot of the guys on the 5D/1D forums call this lens "poor"
Unless I'm greatly mistaken that's not my lens.

That's because they are weirdos.
They spend more time on those forums than using that lens.
If they're going to shoot brick walls head-on, at wide angle, then they deserve the distortion.

True. And they compare it to the EF 24-70mm f/2.8 USM L which is just stupid, because it has a smaller range, lacks IS and costs more - of course it's going to distort less at the wide end.

If they're going to shoot brick walls head-on, at wide angle, then they deserve the distortion.

That's what the Sigma 10-20mm is for :)

BTW, I spent some time going through the tests of all the wide lenses on photozone. It looks like, all round, Sigma does the ultra-wide better than Canon. It beats the EF 20mm f/2.8 USM (the widest prime they tested) and even the EF 24mm f/1.4 USM L. I'd be curious to see them test the EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM on test, especially on a FF body.

...right when he decides to scratch his balls :D

Lol, well i think you should flog(g) all the canon stuff and just get yourself a new Nikon set with some nice lenses :p:D

Nha then people will steal it within a day or two, stick to canon, not very many people will try and take something like that :p

Anyway, I've pretty much decided what to get next, so the hunt is pretty much over, I just need to wait for funds to be available.

5DmkII if the price comes down at all, otherwise 50D. But I decided I might just buy some useful glass before getting a new body. I have my EOS film body, so I might get a cheap superzoom in the mean time.

As long as you still have a cam and you can shoot it is not the end of the world. Hope the cops catch them :(

I have my digital P&S and two film bodies, so I'll be OK. Pity I can't use my Sigma 10-20mm on the film body. Or maybe I can? Will try it when I get it back - I don't mind sacrificing a £24 body for a greater cause :) A rectilinear 10mm on a FF body would be truly awesome!

Nice to see you are not to depressed and already making plans to shoot some more :)

Good luck mate and hope you get what you need until you can get what you want.

Sigma 10-20mm on the film body. Or maybe I can?

you can do that with the Tokina 11-16 2.8
only the Nikon version though - EFs and EF are different mounts
the Tokina actually works at 16mm (15 with a little bit of vignetting but great at 16mm) on FF or 35mm Nikons

if I get this lens for my D90 it will still work for my D4x :p at 16mm

I thought the FF nikons go into crop mode when you mount a DX lens?

Well, 16mm is not what I was referring to. 16mm on a FF would give me the same field of view as 10mm on the crop body. I was thing 10mm on FF - that would be real wide!

Anyway, for ultra wide there is the Sigma 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 EX DG HSM
