No Openweb News Server...

Hi All....
recently asked for a test account....got it and news.is.co.za ran like a dream...
Signed up but now i cannot access IS news server anymore...
after some digging I found that openweb do not have a news server? or for some accounts?

is this true?
my username ends in myweb.co.za

For some accounts only. You amy have to request an account on ths IS backbone.

you were issued with an IS test account, and then issued with another account on another backbone

This might be the case, but you must agree that after hours we give you as much data as we can.

Very few networks offer unshaped as often as we do when the network is not busy. Folks are pulling mountains of data off peak which makes up for the 40% of the month that the network is infact shaped.

If you do not like the shaping, you can always consider:

The harsh reality is this, until Telkom drops the cost of their IPC by at least 50%, shaping will be a reality on uncapped.

Once the price is dropped, there are two choices:

1. Drop the price for clients by 40 to 50% and retain shaping
2. Decrease the contention ratios by 50%, meaning alot less shaping.

I choose option 2, with a little but of option 1 thrown in.

Now, lets see what Telkom does.

it runs on IS it seems....that is what speed test reports....
the other usernames run on MTN...

So on IS the news server is dead during the day....but after 5 it flies at full speed...
