Called Vodacom, and they told me there is nothing wrong on there side, Turned Auto3G off and still "no service"
alright, turned auto3g off, restarted iPhone4 still "no service"
there is no dustso there is nothing to blow out
lol well i just did it anyways! try reset network settings
Guys, if you restart the phone and it is still showing "no service" I would recommend a full restore. And not restoring from back-up, but setting up as a new phone.
Update from my side - I don't have Auto3G installed - my phone is currently not even jailbroken. But, as mentioned earlier I decided to switch off 3G.
Has only been a very hours, but seems to make a massive difference in terms of signal strength.
With 3G on, most of the time I have 1-2 bars. Now with Edge/GPRS only I have 4-5 bars. Will update to let you know if I experience the "no service" issue again.
Resetted but nothing changed, so still no luck, sigh is this only me that still have this problem?
busy restoring, tell me how do i get my paid apps back? do i need to repay for them again?
I also get much better signals with 3G turned off - it all depends on the area you are in, and how well the area is covered by 3G. Suggest you leave 3G off, and only turn it on when you need to use your phone for data - as there is far better penetration on Edge and GPRS frequency bands across the country (sadly) - and that is a network problem and not a phone problem

Restored my iPhone to origenal settings etc.. And now trying to connect to iTunes, now it tells me "there is no SIM card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate" i removed the sim cleaned it etc.. still no luck
Hmm... Take it into a Vodashop perhaps and get them to look at your MicroSIM and test it. Or if you can get hold of another micro-sim, try another SIM in there.
So it could be the SIM or a hardware issue.
