No speed limits. No caps.

Thanx - while I am it do you know of anybody in the edenvale area?

Nope, same routerboard, same radio, same antenna - the stuff that matters
The enclosures and PSU's look different, thats all

javas how's the planning looking, how are you going to link to the rest of Jawug ?
What kit is needed on that Jawug highsite ?
What kit do you want to put up in Soweto.
How big a area are you going to cover ?

wireless network

:) Is this still running in Durban, how do we sign up.

I am in Edenvale dude. Harmelia to be exact. Got hooked up to the JAWUG yesterday. Planning on transmitting to the surrounding areas too as I can see quite nicely from the second story of my house which is where the kit is installed.
Got direct LOS to the Primrose node.

I might be a bit negative, but other than gaming online or copying files from each other, what else can the network be used for?

anything that can work on TCP/IP that is non-commercial.
VOIP, streaming, any kind of other service you would like to run or use.

That's just the thing. The only thing I can think of using it for is gaming or downloading files from each other :D

I guess it won't be a bad way to get new episodes of EVERYTHING I enjoy to watch rather than spend a couple of hundred gigs a month downloading them...

Do you guys have torrent trackers running with availability ?

You can use it for whatever you can use a network for. It is not just about what you get from it, but what you give too.
This is the general attitude with everyone which ends up generating an awesome community around the WUG.

For me, the initial cost far outweights the benefit of being connected. It is one BIG network. Use your imagination :)

Of course I agree, giving back etc.

But that's just the thing. I'm thinking now "Why should I spend the money to get connected to something I don't generally see a use for"

thus my question

Got onto the IRC channels (www.wug.za.net) and chat to the guys. Get a feel for what is out there and what is going on.
I only had to chat to a few guys to get a bee in my bonnet and the urge to get connected out weighed the cash in the bank :)
