No speed limits or caps: Wireless User Groups are growing

Well done to the Wuggers for their hard work and growing their networks.

BTW: We did ask JAWUG for feedback, but they did not come back to us.

Garyvdh, what area do you live in?

Brackenhurst

ja, I'm looking at the KMZ file now in Google Earth... looks like they upgraded Platberg to give us coverage.

Will have to look at taking it to the next step now.

Maybe I should go and have a look an the latest kmz file! I wanted to join the WUG but I had no line of sight connections.
/holds thumbs

:)

Wow we at 2000 members already? Impressive. Yes the wug's are really very nice now, speeds have increased, got some new people on irc etc, keep up the good work. :)

OK, so I seem to have a pretty clear LOS to Platberg, but the distance is about 12.5 km.

Is that distance a problem at 5.8 Ghz?

YOu should try and get a testkit from the wuggers before investing

I still don't see the benefit in joining a WUG

which connect users to each other to share information, game, chat and related activities.

Those are all low-bandwidth applications (unless you perhaps factor in piracy and 1.6gb transfers?)

I also can't fathom a handful of gamers... playing what exactly? On who's server? Naw. I'll stick to my uncapped connection even if I have a measly 1mb/s

I love being connected to the wug. It is more then just gaming and downloading. It is also about the technology and doing cool things. sure you can do most of the things over the internet aswell but how cool is it to do it over an infrastructure you build yourself. Just doing traceroutes and seeing dynamic routing in action and working exactly as you planned is awesome it's kinda like having a big train set.

I still say a big ISP like MWEB should put their weight behind the WUGS and invest in infrastructure to provide a means to get broadband to the people by bypassing telkom. Seems like a better plan to me than to wait for LLU or FTH.

and yes you guessed it everyone replying is on the WUG... :) you really need to do some research ...

+1

OK, where do I get that from?

get onto PTA-JAwug forum and ask any forumite or check on the wiki page might give you the name and contact details
of the person holding the testkit.

If Hollywood and the FBI know what goes on these WUG networks the Chairperson and foundes will go down Kim Dotcom style LOL, i prefer to get my goods off the wug way faster then my uncap

Wish we had a WUG here in East London - would love to start one. Believe someone tried already, but got nowhere or so I heard.

How do you start a WUG?
