No 'theatrics' for Mbeki

So, is that about tribal lines or being strategic at finding the best person for the problem?
From the party's perspective it is strategic, from the voters perspective it is about tribal lines then I would say. So the party is playing the electorate using a strategy to emotionally decide votes at the ballot box.

if you can remember Zuma's rise to power in the ANC, you might remember that he has always had grassroots support. Not so long ago he was just a chairman of the mere Natal southern region. Because of the grassroots support, he was able to ascend to provincial chairman, national chairman and deputy president in a very short period of time. So to cut a long story short, Zuma had nothing (not even acedemic education) but he was catapulted to the top mainly by his charisma and the support amonst the rank and file.
I'm not disputing Zuma's support. I have made my point though.

Plausible. But anyway, my theory seems to be more and more plausible now too ;)
Not just plausible. he was deployed there because of his Zulu connections. Remember the ANC was in conflict with the IFP which commands a lot of Zulu traditional support. Zuma was the best person for the job given his traditional Zulu upbringing. It worked beautifully. Otherwise we would still have the violent confrontations in the province.

But I'm not refering to voting, I'm refering to finding the right person to solve lack of peace in the KZN.

I know, I just took it a step further regarding tribal lines as it actually works in my theory.

Regarding peace in KZN - the ANC nailed two flies with one swat there - they got a man the Zulus love and managed to wrestle election results away from the IFP - both relatively peacefully. One definitely wouldn't have happened without the other. I wonder what will happen in the next election if Zuma is not in the mix.

What party doesn't use strategies that compel voters to make emotive voting decisions? Zuma doesn't prove the ANC uses those 'emotive' strategies more than any other party!

Tony Leon seems more emotional than Mbeki in my eyes any way, he appeals very much to the fears of white South Africans and that worked perfectly in putting the final nails in the Nats coffin.

Zuma is no longer in the provincial mix. The ANC has been running in the province without him. unless I did not understand you correctly

Tony Leon had one task to do - to keep the ANC honest. He spoke out on issues close to people's hearts (and crime is near to people's hearts across the nation irrespective of race). And T-Bone is one of the world's worst public speakers. He is fidgety and almost stutters when addressing people and very rarely shows any emotions.

Your point is very valid, and every political party will play on people's emotions to persuade them to vote for that political party. The difference is that in this country, the chances are pretty good that those emotions will be acted upon. 70% vote in elections for an incompetent government is adequate evidence thereof.

Pobably why there is currently very little black support for the DA. The whites voting for the DA are also guilty of voting with emotions rather than reason. Remember the take back the country slogan?

I'm talking about the ANC's election for ANC president. I wonder what will happen if he is not in the mix there.

Actually many whites didn't vote last time round because they will not vote for the DA. A lot of Afrikaners, for example, will not vote DA.
Voting for a party is almost entirely emotive, whereas voting for issues is not. In this country, for the foreseeable future, the issues will take a backseat to the party.

hehehehehhe very funny slogan 'take back the country to apartheid days':p

What are the various issues that Tony Leon spoke about that close to the average SA voter's hearts?

I will always remember him as a critic more than a person who spoke about solutions.

The KZN ANC has come up in strong support for his candidature. But of course he might loose the election if he does not get support outside of KZN. All nine provinces will come up with their own nominations/endorsements. Who ever wins would be representative of the national views of the ANC. KZN is just one province out of nine albeit with more members and I doubt that there might be any repercusions.

Tony Leon was quite vociferous on issues like child abuse and crime. I should hope that these issues are close to most South African hearts, but I admit I did assume that it would be.

Yho, I would have thought the former Nats jumped to the DA,A lot of Afrikaners didn't vote ? Can I assume that is the volkstaat seeking group? Then they should move to Orania, I'm sure they'll be happy there!

Dude, many Afrikaners will vote for a machinegun toting Zulu boy before an English speaking Jew. And no volkstaat types are not necessarily included!

They later jumped to the ANC. Well, the rest went to ARANIA. What a contrast???
