I bought one of these for my iPhone, but the phones are very freaky when you get a call. They cancel all background noise & the result is that in public you can hear everyone as if they're actually speaking into your headset. All voice is amplified and even when you speak to someone in a group of people you get a clear listen of the other people's conversations.

And oh, the set is this,
Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5vi Noise Isolating Earphones w/ Microphone
Got it on one of those amazon specials at 75% off.

My Dad got me the "Heavy Duty" Parrot - its used in construction, mines, trucking, etc. Can stand outside in a gale force wind without problem. Also cost him a few dollars in the States.

But I agree, makes a big difference.

I thought that the built in extra microphone on the iphone 4 is meant for noise cancelling. Am I wrong or is it just not doing the job?

I'm not sure about the built in cancelling. I've never had trouble hearing people on the handset, but I bought the 'phones for music/hands-free and noise isolating was a nice to have that just happened to be there.

You're not looking for the best then, the Rtings article recommends these in that price range:

^ You can probably find them cheaper somewhere else, just used TA for convenience.
