Noise cancelling headset for work

AirPods Pro have amazing noise cancelling but not over-ear and I do find it uncomfortable to wear them for too long.

AirPods Max are more a fashion item than anything else, they're good headphones but too expensive, bulky and heavier than you want headphones to be.
R14k for headphones?? Just because of an Apple badge. **** that

I do prefer old school over ears than something sticking into my ear or wrapped tightly around my ear.
I listen to the radio at work permanently very softly and do not need to answer phones as most of my work is either emails or idiots walking straight to my desk.
Just need 'silence' when I am concentrating on an important email or working with our inhouse software, unnecessary noisy shouting often leads me to make mistakes, luckily nothing that has cost the company money but it can easily happen and then I will be in tons of trouble. Even dismissed.

Thanx a million

I have the older Sony XM3 and they're brilliant, people have said that the Bose QCs are slightly more comfortable for them but I can wear the Sony's for hours so no complaints.

Sorry I was just trying to be more consistent for certain members here.

The Max in ZAR pricing is stupid at the moment I fully agree.

Priority is comfort over looks and I need maximum hours per day of comfort
Don't care if I look like a retard from the 80s

This Is A Journey Into Sound: A Look at Old-School Headphones - Flashbak

I have a co worker on the opposite side of the building and he is LOUD.
When we move into our new premises next year this guy is going to be in the same open office as me.
It might not help as much as you are hoping.
Does the noise cancelling only cancel out certain frequencies for example engine sounds, etc?
Yeah, exactly. It works best on "constant" sounds. If the dude is talking it can't cancel him out completely, but will definitely help to down him out.

I own XM4s and they are amazing. Put off buying them for years because they were too expensive. Eventually bit the bullet and they're great. Really helps me get into a focused mode and shut out external sounds.

I see you mentioned you can even up by budget but if you want cheaper... I tried on a few of the Anker Soundcore headphones when I was overseas. Some of them were just as comfortable as the XM4s and the noise cancelling was just as good. I think it was the Q45/Q30/Q25 (or something).

Check out rtings. Good source of info with in-depth tests.

Also check out Aaron X Loud and Wireless. Yes, I have spent a lot of time researching this. :p

Thank you, will do some research on all the provided links and take it from there, even if I do not drown out his noise totally just halving the sound would be perfect, will help keep me focused on my PC and hopefully not make mistakes

Never been a huge fan of over the ear headphones but I bought the Anker q20i for my 16 hour flight to the US and they were brilliant.

Currently r999 at incredible corruption.

Bought the same set, absolute bang for your buck.

I've owned the anker q30 and have the sony wh-1000xm5 at the moment. The noise cancelling on the Sony handles voices a fair bit better than the anker. When it comes to sound quality and comfort they're pretty similar, the Sony is much better sounding out of the box, but both have EQ (and the anker has more bands of EQ available), both sound good with a bit of EQ. The anker battery life is way longer than the Sony. I work in a shared office and the only way I can concentrate on work is with ANC on. The anker ANC blocks voices a bit, but you still have to crank up the volume of your music to be able to not understand the conversation, when my boss is shouting at people there's nothing you can do, it's just reduced a little bit, but you can hear every painful word. The Sony can reduce a normal conversation to the point where you know people are talking but you can't hear the words enough to understand them. If I had to do it again, I'm not sure if I would spend the extra money on the Sony or not, pretty much the only thing it does is ANC the voices a bit better, but even that it can't do 'perfectly'.

I have a Jabra Evolve 75 that I have been using for over a year now. They are a bit expensive, but they are worth it. I had to adjust to working in an office 3 days a week after working from home for 6 years, so yeah had to get something.

There is a 3 hour white noise track on Spotify that might also help

Also looking for one that I can use for work, travel, zoom meetings and gaming. Basically looking best bang for buck so budget is flexibale but pretty sure I won't pick up the difference between a 5k and 15k headset.

Just saw on Spotify there is a "pink noise", but Im too scared to listen to it in the office

Used Soundcore (Anker) Q35 for two years now. Battery life is fantastic, noise cancellation is good, colleagues say I sound super clear in Teams/Zoom, they sound great for music, and they are comfortable.
Out of interest... what device(s) do you use it with?

The Sony headphones (to be fair, its most Bluetooth headphones) have driver issues with Windows which results in most people switching off the headset functionality and just using the laptop microphone.

You don't have any Bluetooth related issues with the Q35?

Surface 4 Laptop with Windows 11. Haven't experienced issues with them.

Those look to be an on-ear design though, not over-ears. Lot of people find that style uncomfortable for prolonged sessions, myself included.

Agreed - Super uncomfortable - I have them at the office and can barely keep them on for an hour-long meeting.

don't even consider them for listening to music while working.
