NOKIA 5800: FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Lots of good stuff being said about this phone. My Voda contract expires next Sat and i'm seriously considering porting to MTN to get it on Talk 100 for R150 per month. if i stay with my current contract i need to pay in R1300 to get the phone.

MTN prices are :
Mtn 50 : R50.00 pm payin R3494.00
Mtn 100 :R100.00 pm payin R2012.00
Mtn 200 : R200.00 pm payin R1214.00
Mtn350 :350.00 pm payin R644.00

Those are upgrade quotes from Altech, valid until 9th April

Do the 5800 XM phones sold in South Africa 'Come with Music'? The ones sold overseas come with unlimited downloads from the Nokia music store. I hope the same is offered in SA - the price comparisions surely demand it.

Those prices are expensive, with MTN SP the phone is free on Anytime 100 for R150 a month and R220 I think on Anytime 200.

Well I am getting this phone on Monday from MTN here in East London due to an unrepairable problem with my initial phone. I would just like to know from the all the MTN people if there are all three official colors available? (Black, Blue and Red). If so, I need to specify that I want the black version. But I don't want to appear a boob if only black is available here.

Pity you're in Cape Town, because you can get it free on a Weekender at Vodaworld in Midrand. R189.60 gets you a free phone, 120 free off-peak minutes and 20MB free data a month. (Amount includes itemised billing and CLIP). For someone who prefers having free off-peak minutes, it's not a bad deal.

As far as I know only blue and red have been available so far.
Wait wait the phone is black but the blue one has a blue stripe on the side with a blueish back cover but the front is black. Same with the red one the front is black but it has a red stripe on the side and a redish back cover. There's no all black version that i know of.

Okay, cool. The black one has a silver stripe and a black cover and would have been nice.

I like the only-black version and then the black/blue version. The black/red is pretty nasty.
O okay didnt know they had a black/silver one, it looks sweet! I have the black/blue one... :D Think most people have the red one.

According to a European article, the blue one is Vodafone exclusive so I am guessing only Vodacom sells those, and in all MTN's brochures the red one is shown. Guess I'll have to ask them. If the black one is available I am going to take it, otherwise I suppose red is okay.

I have a blue one from MTN :)

I had a look at the 5800 @ Vodaworld this morning (and the whole Blackberry range - comparing it to an E71).

My conclusion (for MY needs...) : the E71 reigns supreme. Speed is just so much more important than bells and whistles. I only wish I could get BIS for the E71...

I want 1 on Vodacom this time because i'm done with MTN and their filthy customer service.

Thing is, it's R200 on a Weekend Everyday with only 120 off-peak minutes. That's a pretty bad deal. I'd rather have the 1% less customer service. MTN isn't great, but Vodacom isn't either.
