Will you still be able to use the Video Call and Video Streaming functions if the phone is not a V-Live phone?

What is this V-Live thing more than a nice way of downloading news, information and cool stuff for you phone? Will you be able to use the V-Live service with a normal non V-Live Nokia 6680?

as far as I know, v-live has nothing to do with the video calling.
As it is, anyone can access the v-live portal by going to live.vodafone.com from their cell-phone.

I see what you guys mean about the cellphone shop staff not knowing enough about their industry/products.

I just popped into a local cellshop to try find out what they knew about the 6680, and they kept on trying to get me the 6630, even after I explained twice, that vodacom hasen't approved the 6630.

Hi, I'm eagerly awaiting the release of this phone, and thrilled that Vodacom will be releasing it soon. I'm just a little confused as to what the difference is between the "normal" and the "V-Live" 6680.

IC, thanks for the reply. I've been eligible for a handset upgrade since beginning of May, and have been putting it off waiting for the release of the 6680.

I guess waiting a little longer can't do any harm.

Thanks for the welcome :)

expansys now has 22 nokia 6680's in stock.
now if only I could get one on contract.

That is great news, this means that the wait is at long last over. Vodacom should be able to get the stock very easily and then I hope that we would be getting it shortly after.

Lets us all hold thumbs that we can go and sign our upgrade papers this weekend...

Now while we are waiting, does anybody have some nice Internet sites where we can go and download nice free stuff for our new Nokia 6680s?

Here is a few sites i have found:

http://www.zedge.no
http://my-symbian.com
http://www.mobile9.com
http://www.memoware.com

bcool, as I understand it, the vanilla 6680 doesn't have a dedicated pre-programmed V-Live button and the V-Live portal software is not installed.

The 6680 with V-Live will obviously have extra software onboard as well as branding and the pre-programmed V-Live button...

v3g, I hope I have that correct?, I am also curious to know whether the vanilla 6680 can be V-Live'd later on? - perhaps without the branding...

ic, spot on.

Basically Vodafone takes a standard handset and loads custom software on it to enable the V-Live button, portal and settings. And sticks a VLive! label on it.

You'll be able to take your vanilla 6680 in and have the new software loaded.

On Expansys; I remember postings a while ago where forumites got messages from Expansys stating they cannot supply SA due to (I believe) payment problem from SA to them.

A friend of mine called me yesterday. He popped into Nokia at Midrand, and one of the guys working there had the 6680. Apparently they are in stock for sale, but not available on any contracts yet. :(

How much did it cost or to which shop did he go?

I want to try and figure out what the price of the Nokia 6680 will be if it becomes avalable on contract.

After a bit of pressure from a certain user group, Vodacom decided to release the 'normal' 6680 and not to wait for the V-Live! version. As soon as I have details on stock, etc. I'll post here.

Tomorrow will be a week since you posted that. Now, you know just how eager a certain user group can be. Any info yet?

:)

I just called almost every shop inside Vodaworld in Midrand and non of them have any stock of the Nokia 6680, not to buy or on contract.

Where did you get this information?

I'll find out from him as soon as he comes online. Can't get hold of him on his cell phone. Will post as soon as I speak to him.

Just got confirmation. Nokia Midrand say they do have stock. Also a place called GoodGuys in Sandton (011 7837888) also have stock. Going price used to be R6000, but they are apparently in the R5000+ range now.

Dont have exact pricing.

Hope this helps.

Happy B-Day Vodacom!! :D

I saw just now on the www.VodaWorld.com website that Vodacom is celebrating their 7th Birthday this weekend on the 28th of May.

This is a party that I'm not going to miss, some Cartoon Network characters is going to be there, the Vodacom Blue Bulls, some of the SABC 1 TV presenters and as always there is going to be some prizes, sounds like a really fun day.

But I think there is one more thing Vodacom can do to make this a truly memorable day for all its loyal users, please release the Nokia 6680!! It would go great with you B-Day celebrations!

I got a date of 1st of July, possibly earlier.

Best is to put pressure on your local Vodashop. Remember it's your money they're fighting for, so the good ones will spark to get your business.
