Nokia 6680

I get 3-4 days of battery life with fairly heavy use of Smartphone features, and about 30 - 45 mins of calls.

After the first 3 charges (full charge and full discharge) I now keep the phone on charge while at my office desk... so it never really drops from maximum charge.

Ok, so I am upgrading next week, getting my 6680 on Thursday.
Anything I should be on the lookout for, ito problems, tricky settings? And I still don't get this whole USIM thingie?

The USIM (fancy name for the new generation of sims) is not needed to make 3G calls, so don't worry too much about it. I use my 32K sim in my 6680 without a problem.

Battery life is substantially better than the other 3G phones I've tried.

No real gotchas, mine worked right out the box with all the settings installed.

The Nokia PC Suite is another matter.....

Thanks v3g.
That is an understatement! Have had about 11 nokia phones in the last 10 years ... can't beat them, but eish, that PC Suite ... running 6.5 currently, and it is the first one that really worked for me without problems. Will try 6.6 next week

I've downloaded the latest 6.6 (.16, I think) but it still crash, won't connect over bluetooth (phone connects fine over bluetooth directly to Windows) and actually crash the 6680 when I try and do a backup of the phone.

But then we're used to unstable software for 3G devices......

hoping to get my 6680 soon on weekender and hoping the words of Tahir Ally are true cause vodacare/vodashop says specials run for 2 months and i still got to fork out like R1700 if i want that phone :S

hoping it comes down in price.

Any sugesstions for nice (preferably free) apps for the 6680?

A number of jar files for my old SE K700i seem to work and some don't. In general though it seems half the Symbian apps for other phones works as well.

Apps that work quite nicely are:
PuTTY
AgileMessenger
Virgin Radio
Opera (Pre-loaded on mine)

Does anyone know how to get VS Httpd working right?

For those of you that have this handset - what other apps are you running?
What I'd like to see:
Shoutcast streaming audio.
A decent IRC client. (DCC support appreciated)
FTP Client.
Webcam client (to use the phone as a webcam)

Some of these apps are available for sale - however I cant seem to get them for sale in this country.

I saw Nashua had it on a special on weekender , but they have alot of extras on that contract, simsure, clip, this, that, so I will just wait until vodashops get it,

what sim card are you meant to receive with a new 6680 from Vodacom?

At your nearest Vodacom retailer

Tahir, I went to my nearest Vodashop and thy did have 2 64k sims in stock (Retailing at R105 ea). However when they attempted to do a Quicksim swapout the system didn't want to allow it.

Does that mean if I want to swapout my 32k for a 64k I need to pay the full retail?

Have you done quicksim swapouts on the 64k cards before?

I am not too sure what a Quicksim Swapout is, but I just picked up my 6680 with 64k sim (R99), the guy phoned in to do the sim swap ... he reckons it will take 4 hours ... when I get to the office (about 20 minutes later) my 'old' phone doesn't work, pop in the 64k simcard, and Bob's your uncle.

Now to just get the twincall number updated ...

Also, is it necessary to charge the phone for the 6-8 hours period?

Man this makes me mad, now i got to wait for the branded phones beginning of september accordign to vodacom guys and you said new lines, so i suppose it doesnt apply to upgrades, man someone show cpt some love and grant it to us as well.

Ok so i went to the Vodashop twice. In both cases i was told i cant do a sim swap. After calling 155 i was finally told that since my phone used to be a prepaid number (4 years ago) i cant get a 64k because according to the system its a prepaid number. The system is not provisioned for 64k prepaid numbers. I wonder how long this will take to fix? On the upside im really happy with this 6680. I made this entire post sitting at Menlyn from the phone.
