Nokia announce free Maps (smart2go) solution

I think you need to run the app once prior to installing maps.

Jip. Thats correct.

When you run the app once on your phone it will create a folder on your memory card or phone for the maps. When you connect your phone to download the maps it will search for that folder.

Clever bekdik.;)

Ran the app, and I see there is a folder called "Cities" which I assume should contain the maps. I tried 2 different internet connections, but still not working.

Had the same problem, tried with memory card in card reader, worked fine.

My issue though is that there seems to be a difference in detail available on my N80 and on my WM5 JASJAM. On the N80 I can drill down to street level, while on the JASJAM only major roads are displayed.

Anyone else have the same experience or know how to fix it?

(I would ask this directly of the smart2go guys, but can't find a contact. You can only give anonymous feedback on their site :(

I also noticed this on my HP WM5.0 device - useless!!

Hi all. I downloaded smart2go on my K-Jam and Maploader on my PC. When I try to download maps it picks up the memory card but doesn't download any maps. It stays on 0.0% and doesn't show any time remaining. Stayed like this for over an hour. Is there any alternative method of downloading maps?

Got the same problem with my i-mate SP5 (WM5.0 Smartphone Device)

Someone said in a 4x4 forum that he installed maps on his SP5 using his phone in USB mode! I did that too, didn't help!

read this: http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php?p=77715

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF U HAVE CRACKED IT!

Thanx!

I finally got the map loaded on my I-Mate K-Jam. Took about 2 hours using i-burst. I think everyone who had a problem should try again because it was probably a server problem. The maps aren't very detailed. Has street names for highways and a couple of main roads. Besides that, it doesn't even have half the streets on the map, and I'm talking about streets that have been in existence for over 20 years. Anyway, the routing function seems to work fine, but I don't think it's worth it to pay extra to use the GPS function.

I downloaded the maps to my N80 and it is brilliant, I found my place, It works just like google_earth.zoom in to see the roads names and it will direct you to your destination, you have to be online though (connected).

Yep, that was me posting up there (posted same query in this thread) but has had zero response from it.

Just wish there was someone I could email to get an explanation. :(

Man it's da bomb on the N80.Who needs the expensive GPS system if u have the N80 and smart2go maps.Brilliant software.

It was actually me logging it on the Nokia site. Since it's Nokia providing the serice/software I tried to get support from them. Also, my (limited) experience with iMate customer service to date was absolutely useless.

I suggest you fill in a feedback form on the smart2go website, I did! I also want more detailed maps on my i-Mate! Isn't it possible to copy the map data from the N80 - are the file structures the same?

That was the very first thing I did, but not very helpful as they are only collecting feedback and not allowing conversation. I would like to just hear from them an know that it's intentional/they're working on it or whatever.

Haven't tried copying data across devices yet.
