Nokia Lumia 1320

Hi guys

I was able to buy a Lumia 1320 this morning from a friend at an absolute bargain. The device was brand new, just bought on Saturday. I got it for R1500 cheaper than the RRP currently.

So say hello to little old me that have joined the Nokia ranks and the Windows Mobile side

Do you have any tips or apps for me to get started?

Check you got windows 8.1 installed or update to it... Do this before you install apps... (i had to hard reset my device after 8.1 install)
Move contacts (windows phone stores contacts in Outlook.com (live.com)... there are apps to migrate data.
Sync Accounts (email/facebook etc)

Add apps:
For example on mine...
Weather - bing weather and weather channel
Adobe - Reader/ PDF reader
Games - AE Sudoku
Social - Facebook & Whatsapp
Bank - FNB app
torch - Flashlight X
Maps - Nokia Here maps, plus install for SA off line maps, plus Here Drive+, Here City Lens
Cell provider - My Vodacom app
News - News 24 (hoping EWN app gets improved)
Camera- Nokia Camera, Cinemagraph, creative Studio, Panorama ,Refocus
Youtube - Metro
Rap Dialer - (very useful to short cut to contact)
Skype
Bible (yuri)

Obviously many other useful ones, though i dont take many notes/twitter/linkin/bbm or what not
Also installed:
Scan QR Code
Soundhound/Shazam
Supersport
Speedtest.net
Emergency kit

Install WPCentral and take a look every day or two. They highlight a lot of great apps.

Good decision. The 1320 is a beautiful phone. The most important thing imo is making sure you have Windows 8.1 GDR 1 installed. Makes a huge difference.

Or, if you really want "mobile" in the name, it can be "Windows mobile" with a small m. As in the mobile version of Windows.

Thanks again guys for the responses in this thread. You guys kept me awake past 11 each evening this week as I was playing around with the phone.

I can't use it during work hours. Coming from Android, I'm really happy & I'm not making comparisons the entire time. I'm just enjoying the device.

You guys are really Awesomeness! Thanks so much again. Without your responses I wouldn't be able to utilise the full potential of the OS & phone.

So is everyone happy with the Lumia 1320? Because I'm seriously thinking of getting one. I currently have Windows Phone 7.5 phone and I can't really see myself moving away from Windows Phone and I like that the 1320 has such a big screen.

If you can, go with the 1520. Much better screen and reportedly battery life. My 1320 got about 2 days

I'm just not prepared to pay for the 1520. It looks great but it's so much more expensive than the 1320 that I won't consider it.

I'm very happy with mine still. The only thing is, this is a real "internet only" phone to me. I don't know if this is a Windows Phone thing, but I don't get the experience of using the phone, unless I have Wifi nearby (still waiting for my Afrihost Mobile). The phone has amazing graphics. It has only frozen once, when I installed a real dodgy app on it, but other than that it's fast and the best phone I've had the pleasure of using.

I had a Optimus Black before this phone, which was "acquired" by a long fingered individual somewhere. I have an Android Tablet aswell and Windows 8.1 is just something else, it just feels exciting for some reason.

Now you are heading into dangerous territory here with me....Nexus phones are drooooool... cool and so is the LG G2, G3 etc. Simply amazing phones.
It's up to your preference though. I would go for the 1520 if you could afford it though. The 1320 might be a bit low end for your acquired tastes

Edit: What's the latest Lumia to come out this month? The 940, 930, something. Have a look at that too.
