Nokia N8

Ok, at last saw a n8 in a store, cell c, but they want R680 pm. Then i went to virgin mobile and got a shock of my life! Virgin want R320 pm, it comes with R300 airtime and 1000 smss. I think its R340 with itemised billing, and she said shes getting stock tomorrow. Dont know what virgins call costs are though...

so to add to my last post :

N8 on :

Cell C = R680 odd....incl 400 free minutes

MTN = R329 , incl 75mb data, R200 airtime & 20 sms's

Virgin = R 320, incl R300 airtime & 1000 sms's

Vodacom ?

I think cell c has priced itself out of the market. MTN call rates are banging, like R2.50 per minute or something. and MTN gives a whopping 75Mb data, yay.....not. 75mb!

Looks like Virgin has a winner here : their call rates are R2.35 for the first 5 minutes of a day, thereafter its R1,55 pm...and virgin-to-virgin rates are R0,99 pm.

does MTN have this on their website

wanna get this on contract

Hmm now do I get this phone or wait for Desire HD or Windows Phone 7 phone like HTC Mozart. Decisions decisions.

Someone I know got the N8 yesterday. He feels that all iPhone owners can come back to earth now because according to him the N8 is much better. So I don't know. Decisions is always difficult when it comes to new phones especially if you don't have a specific need for it.

Just got mine today! Actually posting from it right now. So far I'm loving it, but a few quirks that I've picked up that you guys should be aware of:

- There's no qwerty keyboard in portrait mode
- The screen can be a bit too sensitive at times, and non-responsive at other times
- Theres only 3 home screens
- Try as you may, but you can't resize the widgets
- The iphones keyboard is a bit smarter when it comes to compensating for typos

Other than that it's bloody awesome, on par with the iphone and galaxy. The gf has been hoarding it for a few hours playing Angry Birds :wtf:

Will take a few pics of it, and with it, and post em and also provide more feedback as I keep playing with it.

Cool I read somewhere that they will include a qwerty keyboard in portrait mode in a firmware update so it's no biggie.

Will it be worth the wait?

What do you mean? Deal wise? I have received the deals already....but scared of posting it here in case the Death Star reigns down its wrath on me for leaking the deals before they actually come into effect on the 7th :-)

If you mean what is my opinion on the phone?....all I am going to say is....ITS NOT A BLACKBERRY! LOL

No, the phone itself. You think it's worth it?

It looks nice enough and the design looks nice and sleek. The hardware specs looks good, specially the 12mp cam. But what Nokia should have done to blow peoples panties right off is slap Android in there instead of Symbian. BORING! But thats just me :-)

Just ordered mine from MTN, hopefully I'll get it soon!

Another Delay?

UPDATE:

Our Nokia N8 stock will now arrive on the 8th at warehouse due to flight delay.

Ok so if its in your warehouses on the 8th, will it also be in stores by then or on the 9th?
And your warehouse Vodashop distance relations, which is nearest, Vodaworld?

Vodacom should really make an official launch or something like for the iphone, I went to a lot of Vodashops for some info and they say they get bombarded by questions regarding the N8 daily, so clearly there is a lot of interest

If the stock arrives on the 8th, then it still needs to be scanned in, processes and then scanned out and packaged for each individual shop for delivery. It then goes to the courier that will deliver it. I would say you would then look at around the 10th or 11th to be safe. Most metro areas will get the stock at the same time due to RAM having hubs in all the big metro's. The rural areas will be delayed by a extra day due to logistics.

I played around with one yesterday for a good hour...
What a letdown...being a nokia fan...
Symbian 3 just doesnt do the phone any justice.
The HTC Desire is still the leader in my book by a country mile.

Saw the n8 at vodacom for R185 pm on a business contract, no free minutes

So is Symbian 3 slow or do you find it doesn't work well on touchscreen phones? Damn why did the hardware have to be so good.
