Nokia N82 or Samsung Omnia

Piesang, you really seem to battle to follow... i brought up the N82 in a thread in which YOU asked which phone you'd want to own, so fair of of me to mention a phone not on your list.

You on the other hand brought the other Nokias up in a thread about specific phones. You get the difference?

And it is really of no benefit for me to tell people about what the N82 can do! I do it because that is what this forum is about, sharing knowledge. You on the other hand have been shown to tell blatant lies, so people can believe who they want....

I just take offence to people spreading falsities. Again above you do not back up you friends decision with any reasons... But expect people to heed your advice based on the subjective reason of "yuck"
 
After using all of these phone I'm sure I have a clue about what is good and what is not.

A long list doesn't mean anything (apart from the fact that you're old). Owning 5 Motorolas on the other hand says way more than a long list :sick:

I've learned my lesson with Motorola, not to even talk about Siemens. And my age, that's not a problem. Lots of people think I'm older that I am because I'm so successful. You don't really think I just get 2 or three phone in a year do you.:rolleyes:

Well no, if you read back through most of my posts in response to yours, it is the fact that you provide misleading information to people who may be using this forum to help them with their decision.... and the final post in this thread was because I do not like it when people think they are better than anyone else because of their perceived success! Everyone is equal on an anonymous forum.
 
Is the Omnia available on Prepaid?
If so, price and do you still get the Garmin License for life?

I think the Garmin License for 2 years is a standard thing for Samsung's new mid-high range now, my dad's i780 (vodacom contract) and my Omnia (MTN contract) both include the Garmin navigation.
 
The Samsung Omnia comes with Garmin For Life (i.e. license for the lifespan of the handset)

I didn't say I was better than anyone on this forum. There is lots of guys on here who achieved greater success than I did.

The information I provide on here I get from GSMarena, Nokia.com and from personal experience.

If you have a Nokia N95 lying in your drawer or wherever take it out and change the product code with Nemisis, install the latest firmware and see for yourself.

Well, u can get a feel for the shape and weight of it, but not how the buttons on an actual N82 will feel, I would imagine. Dummy phones must put a lot of people of that don't know better...

It is available I see for R7699 from shop and ship. I see they offer the 16GB internal memory version too. Would have been nice to get THAT one from MTN/Vodacom!

Doesn't make sense to buy it prepaid though. R7848 ((R319 + R8) * 24) from MTN on Anytime200 over 2 yrs.

I just tried my Omnia's Garmin GPS out for the first time today. Pretty impressive. Hadn't used GPS before so was a bit hesiitant to give it a try. Surprised how 'intelligent' it is. Damn, it even picks up how fast I am walking in our house :D Unfortunately in the car the radio needs to be off in order to hear the voice directions, though admittedly the phone was in the cup holder as i am not using the windscreen mount yet.

I was under the impression that GPS had data charges attached to it, but apparently not? Shows what an ignoramus I am w.r.t. GPS :p

No I mean they actually got the REAL phones, tied to metal cabling, for you to actually use and fiddle with. I almost tried the iPhone, but just couldnt deal with the thought of putting my hand on it, it just felt wrong and dirty.

GPS on a phone will always use a small amount of data to retrieve co-ords or even some additional map data, but all in all, if you have the maps installed on your phone, the amount of data the GPS downloads is so small you may not even use 1 or 2 MB in a whole month. Nokia maps downloads about 23KB, but only if you use a new area or something, its not every time. This is just what i've noticed so far.
 
Ryan, those dummies are shocking! I almost got put off the N82 because of the dummy, it was a real shocker! The "build quality" was awful, with gaps not uniform around the screen etc.... one of the worst I have seen! You really think these cell companies would provide the actual shell with some weight in it to make it realistic.

Dudley, I took the plunge and played with an iPhone at the Apple shop recently... and I can honestly tell you that I was not impressed. Yes, it is gimmicky but within a few minutes it was obvious to me that this would wear off and I would be left with a phone that was effectively a fancy iPod....

GPS - my understanding is that assisted GPS sends some data as it uses to towers to help locate your position which then makes it quicker to lock onto the satellites... or something along those lines. I had also read that it sends data to see whereabouts the satellites are situated so that is does not need to search for all satellites but only those above the horizon at that time. Both sounds fairly feasible but too lazy to search to confirm which one, as I usually would :)

Ryan, in my experience that speed shown on the GPS can be pretty accurate and shows you how out your car speedo is!! :) I am lead to believe however that it can miscalculate if you are going down or up a steep hill.... this downward movement is still picked up as a move!
 
Omnia enroute!

I am finally getting my Omnia in the next week or so, I am still satisfied with my decision, will see what happens when I receive the phone and start using it. But, I haven't noticed any widespread issues with the phone, so I doubt I will have a problem. I tried out the iPhone awhile ago, but kept going back to the Omnia.

Talk 100 from VodacomDirect, R19XX cash payin, can't remember the exact amount.

Will wait to see what Vlive branding they've slapped on it :mad:

They had it on various contract options.
