Nokia N96...

@Piesang, have you played witht he INNOV8? ... and if you did how do you compare the two phones .... (seeing you the phone tech dude on these here forums)

Havent played with it yet so I cant say. The specs on the N96 and INNOV8 are almost exactly the same.

INNOV8 is a bit bigger with 8MP camera and better battery. I'm a Nokia fan and don't like Samsung at all (Personal taste) so those differences wouldn't have made me choose the INNOV8 over the N96.

Only negative thing about the INNOV8 that I heard on the Phone Show is that the video capturing is bad. The video and audio is not in sync.

N96 sounds really great then. Well except for battery life. I do however have a hard time believing that the screen is that good Piesang. QVGA for watching videos is really not ideal especially after getting used to a 480x320 res on my itouch. I also have had a 2.8" QVGA media player and the same goes for that. Just not enough detail in 320x240. I do hope Im wrong though!

Impressive!!! In particular the GPS locking in within 20 seconds... wifi also good!!!...

You'll have to see it then to believe it.;)

My N96 was on charge the whole night till about 9:00 this morning.

Normal use so far. A few calls and SMS's. Played with it for about 5 minutes to choose a ring tone and sms tone. Not much more than that.

Battery is still full.

Battery is still going strong.

The usual, calls and sms. My brother came from work at 16:00 and played with the phone for about 15-20 minutes watching some video clips and listening to ring tones and mp3's.

Out of 7 bars it has 6 bars left now.

Pretty good.;)

I suppose so long as you can get through the day, after heavy usage on a single charge, the jobs done. The thing is after 8 or 9 months that battery isn't going to be as efficient as it is now...

Ok, so here are the results of my first day of usage of the N96 after the first charge.

1. 3G is turned off because I hardly ever use it.
2. Display brightness is set to the maximum because that's the way I like it. 3. Power saver time-out is set to 15 seconds.
4. Light time out is set to 15 seconds.
5. Auto Rotate is on.
6. Navi Wheel Breathing is also on.

Wednesday morning 9:00 I unplugged the charger after charging the whole night. (22:00 - 9:00).

I've used the phone to make and receive a few calls and also send and receive a few sms's.

My brother played with the phone for about 20 minutes playing video clips, listening to ringtones and mp3's and also going through some of the features.

I Copied some more movies to the phone and also installed a few applications.

I used the bluetooth once to send a large file to another phone.

I got home at about 20:30. The phone gave the first battery low warning at around about 21:00. It immediately went into Power Saver mode by itself.

I used the wifi a few times to go to Mybroadband and also check my gmail account for new mail.

I looked at some of the apps and games I installed and also removed some of them from the phone that I'm not going to use. All this while I'm still getting a battery low warning every now and then.

At about 23:00 the phone still didn't die on me so I plugged it in anyway because I don't really want it to go totally dead due to a flat battery.

So, one full day with normal usage after the first charge. That is not bad at all. ;)

Piesang - Would you reccomend the N96? are you going to keep yours for a while?

Reason I ask, work has given me a decent cellphone allowance :D

Looking at:
N96 - Good camera, great multimedia
E71 - Seems like perfect allrounder
X1 - Full qwerty + touch
E90 - IMO still king

Phone must have good call quality, good camera(my 6110 Nav camera ****), gps, great keypad not sure i'd be comfortable with touch only.

Yes, its definately a keeper. Excellent phone.

I've just tried someones BL-6F battery (Nokia N78) in my N96. It fits almost perfectly. The back cover closes with a small hump at the back but it's hardly noticeable.

And with the CapDase cover on the phone I can't see a difference at all.

I'm first going to use the standard battery that came with the N96 for a while to see if it is neccessary to get the 1200mAh battery.

At least now I know that it is possible without doing some McGyver tricks.;):D

No offense piesang, yes we all now by now you had 3 failures, which brings me to the point, stop posting it everywhere, gets rather annoying, and no im not typing this cause im a fanboi. heck i read of and heard of many people having samsung/bb/n96/n95/n82/motorola(but we all know they suck) failures aswell yet they dont spam it.

Just reaaaaally annoying if someone spams the same sentance over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over

Would have got this phone after my n95 8gb but the fact the DVBH does not work in the UK (uses DVBT) is a big dissapointment.Aa the tv function was a big selling point I thought (40+ channels free).

Though in the UK they have the bbc iplayer feature which allows u watch all bbc programs online.

So you think it will be better if I say the Xperia is a excellent phone and then if someone gets one that is faulty (like the 3 I had;)) then they say but I said it's a good phone???

No, I'm sorry. I tell the truth, and it's not only me who got a faulty unit. Read all the posts in the Xperia thread.

The shop I got mine from send the whole batch back. :D

N96 users,
I have some questions:
1. Have you tried any n-gage games? how well do they run given that the phone has no dedicated 3d accelerator?

2. How fast is the usb file transfer? can anyone time how long it takes to copy a 1 gig or so file from pc to phone.

3. Do the call answer and hang-up buttons get in you waywhen using the phone, or are they in an awkward position?

4. Does DVB-H tv work?

I have an N95 8gb, and it's truly a great device, it's replaced my ipod, psp and pmp, and, barring a few allowances for size and batt life, I really enjoy having 1 device in my pocket.

But, what really bugs me about the phone is the very slow (12mb/s) transfer rate of the usb and the lack of a memory card.

So I want to know if these things have been improved in the N96, cos i might consider an upgrade to 1 next year.

thanks btw.
