the way the screen slides is awesome!
comes with alot of accessories (car charger/charger/extension to plug old charger into/very nice stylus/screen cloth)
has soo many Apps..it should keep me busy for a while
32GB..that SO rocks (used only 4gb on my old phone but..32GB FTW)
keyboard is easy to use (i don't have the biggest hands in the world though)
GF just wants my fone.."please swop fones with me!" lol..i guess i can bargain with her..:p
touch screen is the same as the 5800's!

I just started a new "Nokia N97" thread:

This phone deserves its own thread :)

You can get a good idea of the subscriptions and pay-in on different packages.

So far, this is the most comprehensive and easy-to-use site I've found when it comes to checking out what your options are.

Voda has stock as of yesterday.
Its not badly priced. Cheaper than the E90 and the N96!

Back to the colour issue...

I called Vodacom upgrades department and they gave me the same story I've been hearing so far.

They confirmed that they have stock as of today, so it should be hitting Vodashop shortly.

Regarding the colour, they say they don't know the colour of the phones they're getting from their suppliers. Is that a good thing?

I expressed my views in a friendly manner (since the representative was so friendly) and basically stated that I would move to whichever network can give me a White N97.

I asked what they could do to see about getting me a White one and they basically just told me to check the Vodacom4me / Vodacom website, or to visit Vodashop.

.. been there done that ...

www.Vodacom4me has the N97 for Phone Setup but that's about it.
www.Vodacom.co.za does not have the N97 listed at all right now.
Vodashop I will try on Saturday, but I'm not expecting much from them.

Edit: btw, they also suggested GSMArena, but that site is not in any way affiliated with Vodacom as far as I know.

Response from Nokia Careline

I contacted Nokia Careline and received a fairly prompt response. Here's what they had to say:

Thank you for emailing Nokia Careline.

With regard to your enquiry about the Nokia N97, please be informed that authorized dealers and partners such as MTN, Vodacom, Cell C, Autopage and all others are aware of all the stocks they order from Nokia as all the models with all the colors are proposed as a catalogue to all dealers. Having said that, should you wish to get a white colored Nokia N97 please be informed that you can order it from our authorized dealers and even they don’t have it in stock, they can place an order to us on your behalf.

Kindly note that this is the formal process to deliver units to our valued customers in the most efficient and fast way. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to you, however, we can assure you that all dealers place orders knowing the model and the colors of all phones.

[ I bolded that one line myself ]

I feel a bit more at ease about Nokia now, knowing that they are not the weak link in this frustrating chain from manufacturer to consumer.

I will therefore insist that Vodacom order me a White N97 (directly from Nokia if necessary) if I'm to continue making use of their services.

Here we have it in black and white (no pun intended) from Nokia. So I'm not going to buy any more excuses from the dealers.

Anyone care to join me in taking a stand?

As I've said before, this is not about the colour of the phone, it's about freedom of choice and being satisfied that you've got the exact phone you wanted for the next 2 years.

yip agree..you pay for something you WANT..not something someone want to give you!

I've also posted a query with Vodacom customer care online, so let's see what their response will be :)
