Now if the Minister knew any maths whatsoever, he would see that 45 years have gone by, so blaming that guy is just illogical. Which brings me to my next point. Africans don't do logic well, and logic is fundamental for Maths.

Daughter is taking a gap year between degrees, so decided to get a teaching diploma in high school Maths at Wits.
Of about 120 - 150 getting the teaching diploma at Wits this year, 8 are doing Maths, about 2 science and 60 plus LO.
Going to be a huge shortage of Math and science teachers in a few years...
 
Oh My Gee string! They will have the exhume DR Verwoerd because now they disturbed his peace, he is laughing so hard that his grave are caving in.

Now I understand the reasons for a 50% science and 47 % maths pass mark by the majority, Sezo Muchunu is point and case of the problem. Now I'm left to wonder what his passmark's were?

If I have anyone to blame for South Africa's problems today, it is Hendrik Verwoerd. For everyone who missed what he meant:

The fact that Bantu Education forced an already poor population to pay for their watered-down education whilst whites received education for free. The Bantu act effectively blocked 70% of the country from receiving proper education which lead to 3 successive generations of uneducated black populace, what has that lead to?
1. Poverty
2. Crime
3. AID's explosion
4. Lack of skilled workers, all of the above which in turn leads to number 4
5. Brain drain of whites.

I can even put my money on that the ANC is in power due to the lack of education amongst general populace.

But you guys never stopped to think of that did you?
So instead of bashing the MEC for his unnecessary comment (And yes, it pretty damn unnecessary to bring up a blame, its better to work towards a solution), try understand the history of your country first.

So you think you know what he meant? Were you there? Did Verwoerd create maths and science as he alluded, and specifically made it so hard and complex that even today blacks fail the subjects. The words he used is very clear indeed and indicates his flaws in mentality. To blame Verwoerd for AIDS and the "White exodus" is akin having the same mentality as Senzo Mchunu, related in any way?

In case you missed the biggest part of the joke. Verwoerd died in 1966 when he was murdered by Tsafendas, one of your mates? To blame the educational weaknesses of current generations on a curriculum set by the current Government on someone that died in 1966 is pathetic to say the least. The fact that you actually try and "explain" his mindset and give reasons to why the students lack performance in maths and science are even more pathetic. BTW most if not all of those student are from post 1994, thus post apartheid, thus your argument falls flat even further, unless you allude that due to apartheid these students are somehow retarded.

The MEC said Verwoerd made maths and science difficult for blacks. ANYONE with a brain can deduce that it doesn't mean Verwoerd sat in his lab and created algebra and trigonometry. The MEC meant maths and science was made difficult because Verwoerd was the guy who brought in Bantu Education. Bantu Education forced blacks to pay for their education, whilst also receiving a very watered down education, making them only useful as gardeners, maids and simple workers. It also cut budgets to black schools. What is the result of this? Opportunity loss for blacks. The butterfly effect being poverty, crime and AID's. BECAUSE THATS WHAT A LACK OF EDUCATION LEADS TO

Oh and if you clicked my link, you'd realise Verwoerd passed this law in 1953, so regardless of his death in 1966, the law was still passed 13 years before. Oh, and I guess you still think I'm pro ANC what now with this dumb comment: he was "he was murdered by Tsafendas, one of your mates?"
