Nvidia feels the pinch

IMO what made ATI good was they hit the sweet spot when the HD4XXX series was released. You could get a good GPU for for R2500 and at that stage the GT2XX series cards was R3000+ with not much better performace.

Not every1 got R5000 to spend on a GPU. Nvidia must learn its not always about the fastest card. 99% of the customers want the most bang for their buck and thats what ATi delivered.

ATi for life! (Or as long as they last)

Keeper are you in the same universe as the rest of us???

well just before these new 295 cards, the 4870X2 was king speedwise,
and the 48xx series kicks the gtx and 9th generation series, money/value wise.

i'm talking about bang for your buck here, buddy - nobody cares if a gtx 295 gets 5fps more than ati's flagship card if it's R3000 more expensive.

ATI won because people bought them instead of the usual nVidia, because it was just a better series than the crappy 9th nVidia series, and overpriced gtx series.

nVidia was awesome up untill the 8800 - after that they screwed up somehow.

this thread is about nVidia losing revenue, and the reason is a lot of people were sick of nVidia's overpriced cards, and decided to go ATI since they had a good series.

nVidia screwed up the 9th nVidia series! sorry, but it's true.

Keeper firstly the 295 does not get 5FPS it gets alot more, its cheaper than a 4870x2

Your a typical fanboi dude :p

lol - dunno where you get it cheaper, cause the 4870X2 is cheaper than the GTX 280 - so are you saying a brand New GTX 295 is cheaper than an old GTX 280 ?

saw the gtx for > R7000 (Close to R8000??)

X2 goes for +- R5700

not sure about the gtx price though...

who cares if it can run grid even 30 fps more, if you can already get 110 fps with a X2?

Well is grid the only game on the market and the only game people play?

Plenty games out now that 10-30 FPS would make a huge difference.

Have you seen reviews for the 295 and have you seen how it kicks the 4870x2's ass? are you disputing the 295 is nearly 25% faster in some games than the 4870x2? See people who are not fanboi's could see the 4870x2 whipped the 280 but fanboi's cannot see when another product is whipping their product :p

Maybe they need to get defensive about their purchase or something hahaha.

ah, going off topic again are we - I'm not disputing anything, I know it's a good card but 140 fps over 110 fps aint helping anyone.

- so tell me, where can you find this golden card cheaper than a 4870x2?

unless you pay R8000 for a 4870X2, I doubt you can do it.. :D

Well the problem with this country keeper is they rip you off when a new vga card is launched but overseas nvidia is not more expensive as you stated.

You cannot look at South africa and say nvidia are expensive, the people who supply nvidia are rip offs and not nvidia being expensive. Your confusing South african suppliers of nvidia ripping us off and nvidia being expensive.

499 dolla for 295 on newegg, most 4870x2's are 549 :)

killa, that may be true but you're not helping anyone here in South Africa, by stating a 4870X2 is more expensive than a GTX 295. someone might just take your word and go and buy a GTX 280 or something because he believes it's cheaper than a 4870X2, when in reality the 4870X2 is cheaper than a 280, and can even beat 2 of them in SLi.

remember there are 100's of lurkers on MyBB which could not know the full story...

So I say again: A 4870X2 beats 2 GTX280's in SLi, and it's less than half the price of that kinda nVidia Setup.
and that ladies and gentleman, is why this thread exists.

Keeper show me your source for the 4870x2 beating 2 x 280's in sli.

I find that hard to believe and would need to see a creditable source to believe you.

More expensive is the 4870x2, now a guy shopping here taking your advice would spend alot more on your card. It is not cheaper everywhere. Just because its cheaper at pcint does not mean its cheaper everywhere else in SA and the WORLD.

more expensive on prophecy

more expensive again

3 big online retailers all have the 4870x2 more expensive than the 280. Now what was your argument again?

Please do me a favour and read this review of the 295, it compares the 4870x2 and the 280sli as well and maybe you should edit your statement that 4870x2 beats 280sli because its gets its ass handed to it 90% of the time. 295 cannot beat the 280sli and the 295 whips the 4870x2.

PCInt ships country wide my friend, same as those.

just because their prices are crazy, doesn't mean you should compare them.

Keeper what is your source for that man, give me a website, i can photoshop some pictures to show ati doing that, guru3d is one of the most respected and trusted sites on the net.

Source of those pics or i call all those pictures BS.

@Keeper.

Dual card setups are notoriously driver dependent.

My GTX 280 is an outstanding single GPU card, and yes, it get's the smack laid down on it by the 4870x2 in the majority of gaming tests.

However, when I add a second GTX 280 to my Asus rampage formula board, I know for a fact it will reverse the tables and dish out a can of whipass on the 4870x2.

Nvidia have (at last) performed some excellent driver optimisation in the last 2 months and GTX 280 SLI setups are gaining up to 40% in certain games.

Simple fact is the GTX 295 is a dual GPU, single card solution using an evolution of 2 x GTX 280 GPU's (or should I say GTX 285 GPU's) on a smaller 55nm die fabrication.

If the GTX295 can biatch slap the 4870x2, with the correct drivers and rig, so too will 2 x GTX280's in SLI. End of story.

Cheers.

guys, those pics come from various sites. go to google images and simply type "4870x2 vs gtx 280". or visit tom's hardware. you can even search that in youtube, and see the people doing some benchmarks infront of you.

it may not be all games, but if it can crap on 2 nVidia GTX 280's in a few games, and is cheaper than 1 of 'em, I don't see a real difficult choice here ?

anyway, If You think nVidia is so good, go and spend R7000 on them. if everybody did that, it will soon be R10,000 a card.
If people see that ATI is the better choice, good - the prices will go down, ON BOTH SIDES.
