Just having some fun. I've decided not to upgrade my d!ck to SLI. There will be too many driver related problems later on ...

Jokes aside - I think RoosTa got it right. This doesn't need to be yet another mine is bigger than yours thread.

I think ATI worked wonders with their new cards. They've made Nvidia wake up and up their game.

I'm extremely happy with my GTX 280, which I did get at a huge discount it must be said. If it weren't for that - the 4870x2 would have been better value.

Having said that - the benefits of CUDA technology are starting to turn the humble GFX card into a processing powerhouse. That's where the future lies - in value added GPU computing, not just crunching out maximum FPS. Althought that's still where the fun lies. :)

agree 100% to your post.

I was just giving the nVidia fan boys a hard time, with them screaming "no, no - you're lying! ATI can't EVER be better, no ways!" no matter what you say....

i'm seriously not an ATI fanboi - this is my first ATI card, and Ive used nVidia since the days of The Riva TNT ('bout 4 or 5 cards were nVidia). The guys still hanging onto the GTX280, when faced with an X2, are fanbois. you're only a fanboi if your still supporting the losing team - i'm ashamed to admit I run after the team with the best bang for your buck...

It will always be a back and forth tennis game over who has the crown, I just think the 4870X2 was more of a boost over the GTX280, than nVidia's 295 over an X2.

I think the reason that nVidia are in a pickle is that there is no more headroom left in their current architecture. I must however confess that I am more than impressed with the way they were able to reduce powe usage on the 295.

Personally I want a 4870 as soon as the retailers stop trying to shaft me. Something about a 1 teraflop device that makes me want it badly.

Seriously - it's amazing watching the GPU crunch a DivX movie into a multitude of formats in next to no time. Makes the added value proposition excellent.

the cpu took like 60 plus minutes to convert a dvd to divx and the gpu did it in under 20 minutes!

the pirates can get nVidia then, i'll stick with ATi for now. ;)

+1

Its what you make of it. If you like CUDA, go Nvidia if you like Stream go ATI. Both the cards have their + and - so stick to what you like the most. In games it hardly matters if you're getting +5 fps higher in one game and -5 fps in another. Some games are optimised for NV and others AMD/ATI. Thats the way its always been.
