Second-hand 1080Ti's are still going at ~R10 000, same with 2080s (some priced up to ~R12 000). The 3070 will cancel these.

I wonder how many people actually still bought their GPUs new during the last generation? The 'home' crypto mining days are over. Hardware dumps have passed. People will now start to buy new again.

Now that the 3000 series are about to launch at the same price as the 2000 series everything prior to that have been immensely devalued. The gains the 3000 series are showing over the 2000 series going by the Digital Foundry video are insane. Nvidia has outdone themselves here.

Honestly the 2000 series is probably the waste of money here. A 1080 Ti is still very relevant, and so is my straight 1080, as long as you arent wanting to play in 4k. I run 2k for everything without issue..

3000 series looks like the best bang for buck in a long time..

My point is, Nvidia's gains and there pricing strategy have made caused their previous generation to go obsolete. Pending on how well the 3060 will be received, second hand sellers will need to lower their expectations.

Yes, the 1080Ti is still very relevant. I game with a Vega64, no regrets at this time. I will upgrade next year to new-gen Nvidia and Ryzen. I think Nvidia held the cards here, and yes, the 2000 series may be perceived as the testbed, but I don't think AMD's 'Big Navi' is going to tick as many boxes as Nvidia.

A 3050ti or 3060 will be more like Xbox Series X performance I guess. Thank goodness for Game Pass on PC so everyone can get to enjoy the goodness of new hardware.

My body is ready to go all in on the 3080. Upgrading from a 1060 6GB is gonna be like a dream :)

Now I just need to decide between AMD or Intel 10th gen. Time to do some research I guess (probably AMD, but been burned by them before).

Zen 3 with pci gen 4 is most likely the smart move at this point. But wait for the reviews and big navi to give context to the Nvida release.

Yeah I seem to be gathering that - PCI Gen 4 does indeed seem like the smart move for the new cards. The 3900XT seems to be stronger than the 10900K for gaming - not really interested in overclocking or "content creation".

Gonna be interesting to see what Big Navi has to offer. Either way, this upgrade is long overdue :)

If its just gaming 3600 or 3700 is the sweet spot. Save some cash for a better gpu or something?

Even though they support pcie 4.0 I don't think these cards will come anywhere near to needing it, even with RTX IO.

I'm sure the reviewers will test it as soon as they have the cards, but I'd be very surprised if pcie 4.0 makes any difference whatsoever to the performance.

The reason I mentioned PCI 4.0 is the new feature to stream data directly from your SSD to the GPU with this series. Similar to how the PS5 is suggesting. Streaming huge amounts of data via PCIe from an SSD and sharing that with a powerful GPU, good chance you will see a difference between PCIe 3 vs 4.

Even though it's a pipe dream, I prefer to upgrade once if possible :)

Likewise, would rather not buy old gen if the new stuff is already here (with regards to PCIe 4). That alone may make the decision to go with AMD as it seems more readily available compared to what seems like older tech that Intel currently supports.

The graphics card is the impetus for the whole overhaul, so that's the first of my "budget". In light of this, I would like to get a CPU that can keep pace (and do so for years to come). Rather spend a couple of extra grand now on better components than overhauling the bottleneck at full price (+what I already spent) that would become more apparent as time goes on.

Oh no for sure, if you're upgrading then definitely get something that supports pcie 4.0, I'm just saying it's not necessary to upgrade everything if you don't have it and just want the card.

The 5700XT does perform slightly faster with PCIe 4.0 vs 3.0 in some instances:

I'm sure the performance of the intel CPUs and PCIe 3.0 vs AMD and PCIe 4.0 will be one of the first things tested by reviewers.

RTX 3070: from R10,900
RTX 3080: from R15,500
RTX 3090: from R33,300

Expect the theoretical RTX 3060 to cost around R7,750 and we may eventually see a RTX 3050 for around R5,500

Wishful thinking, more like

RTX 3070 13k-15k
RTX 3080 17k-20k
RTX 3090 I do not want to know!

It's not. Ordering a 500 dollar GPU on Amazon, the price to bring it to sa is r11000.

So I don't know how you came up with your numbers.
