Ok guys spent most of last night setting up mint on my htpc, wouldn't have taken so long if I wasn't a noob but now I think if I reinstalled it it would take all of 15 min.

I am having an issue with the nvidia driver, it recognizes only 1024x768 and 1366x768 in the range that I need, I have been reading about this and it seems it may be due to the fact that I use an RS-232 connection to my LCD TV. I need it to run at 1280x768 to get the proper resolution, is there any way I can force this?

Thanks

1366x768 is proper widescreen resolution. What sort of TV do you have?

Go here http://entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm to download PowerStrip, best software to force screen resolutions. You should find a lot of knowledge on the web on how to set it up. I think you mean VGA cable, RS-232 is the old serial communication standard... The VGA cable does not detect the lcd screen native resolution. The only proper way to fix it is to used HDMI or DVI cables. If you have a DVI port you can get a DVI to HDMI converter, thats if your screen has HDMI support...

PS do you know what the native resolution of your lcd is? Most HD-ready LCDs are 1366x768 and not 1280x768. What make and model lcd screen is it?
