Official 2015 Super Rugby Thread

Rumours floating around (not sure how true they are) that The Stormers are lining up either John Plumtree and/or John Mitchell as a replacement for AC. Also, they're looking to sign Johan Goosen.

Interesting times...

Very interesting!

Although Goosen will be a great signing for the Stormers, he is a bit injury prone for my liking.
Wil Plumtree leave the Hurricanes after 1 year only?

On a side note, I am seriously worried about Vermeulen. His neck injury is worse that what they are leading us to believe. Vermeulen have been playing with the neck injury for a couple of months already. Will he breakdown in the WC? Hope not.

Why would they want to mislead us about it? They take player health very seriously, and generally they don't field players that aren't fit to play.

John Mitchell would be awesome. Love him or hate him he set the foundation at the Lions. Changed the ethos of kicking rugby to running rugby. Imagine what he could do with the personnel available to him in the Cape?

Couple of months ago there was an interview with Duane after he left the field with the neck injury. During this interview he made the comment that it has been there for a while, but you learn to play with the pain! :wtf: Maybe I am paranoid, but still worried.

The neck injury have popped up a couple of times this year already.

Also, players will be players. They will push their bodies to the limits even if it means breaking them.

Yeah, that's true, but usually the team doctors have final say. Unless it's a Schalk Burger situation where he knows what the risks are and there's not really much else to be done.

He just might be. He's already in Durban and points out he doesn't want to uproot his family again. Would Smit allow it, though?

Personally, I would give him go. John Smit must put his ego aside and do what could be great for Sharks rugby.

As mentioned, he did kick start the Lions revival to some degree in 2011.

I am just wondering what is going to happen at the Bulls. Ludeke tipped for Director of Rugby. What happens when Meyer comes back? Will he be coach or will a position be created for him. I have the feeling (could be the cold :)) that Meyer might stay on as Bok coach after the World Cup.

Oh man.

Rumours all round.

This time it is Pieter-Steph du Toit, Marcell Coetzee on their way to Cape Town.

How beautiful is this?

Sergio Parisse has always been one of my favourite players. Classic eightman.

I had also heard this. Etzebeth and PSdT is a mouthwatering combo! Not sure about Coetzee though. Even if it were true, where would he fit in? As good as he is, would he really displace our current loose trio? Yes, depth is important but would he really want to spend Saturdays riding the pine?

As for this weekend's predictions...

Highlanders
Rebels
Crusaders
Hurricanes
Waratahs
Bulls
Sharks

He's a worthy replacement for Schalk. Schalk is going to retire after the RWC.

Mitchell admitted the Stormers proposition was attractive but he wanted a four-year deal. He was also concerned that the Stormers director of rugby Gert Smal was contracted for two years and worried that Smal could be tempted away to a bigger job with the Springboks, leaving Mitchell vulnerable.

"There were no guarantees for me beyond that period. Had I been offered a four-year deal, it would have been different. But I have travelled around the world a lot to pursue my career as a coach and didn't want to uproot my family again for the promise of just two years," Mitchell, who is based in Durban, told Supersport.com.

"I can work with Gert but I have been in a situation before where I signed up a coach to work with a director of rugby and then it never happened and I was left on a limb," Mitchell added of his time at the Lions that ended in an uncomfortable exit.

I can relate to the issue he is experiencing. Also, the day when Gert Smal leaves WP, CoCT (with SARU) will make their move and succeed. I wouldn’t mind Gert Smal ending up at the Springboks.
