OFFICIAL Android thread

hey guys, just got an htc tattoo. Want to sync my contacts to my phone, any ideas? Got a mac btw, but can resync my bb to a PC if i have to.
 
whats ure guys view on the tattoo, is it worth getting? the touch screen on it turns me off as i believe its not the same as the iphone/nexus type

Ok, what i did to get the contacts onto the phone:

Exported my mac contact list as a vcard, and loaded that onto my google contacts. I have the phone set to autosync that to android. Quite cool.

Yes, it is resistive and not capacitive. I thought it was going to be quite terrible, but its actually not bad. Getting used to it already and only had it for a couple of hours. Very hard to adjust from a bb, and i dont think i am going to give up my bb just yet, prob going to use both.

Looking for a app.

Hi all, maybe you guys can help me.

I am looking for a GPS application that is not a street / directions app where I can enter GPS co-ordinations and it would direct me there while walking. Let me explain, we are going camping this weekend in the lowveld and probably do a bit rock climbing while we are there. The route guide has the co-ordinates in it on how to get to the climbs (i.e. where is the path through the cliffs that leads to the climb).

I have found a app called crowsFlight which looks like it might do this but I am not sure how good it is.

LoL not Air Control thats crap!! Flight Director is way better.. :) ;)

what u think of the nexus1?? i'm getting the Desire on Thursday Afternoon?

flight director??? oooh gonna go look for that!!

my nexus if friggen amazing. you can feel the 500megs ram, nothing hangs, nothings slow.... eish its just perfect. The desire is just rebranded nexus really so its gonna be INSANE

I've ordered myself one from Expansys, they say middle of April only :(
 
Hi All! I am hoping to upgrade to a HTC Desire the moment it becomes available on Vodacom (let's hope it is soon!).

My question though - can we as South Africans (as sidelined as we are in the technological community :-( ) purchase apps from the Android market? From what I have been able to Google, we cant!

Apparently Leaf has some app from which you can download free apps. But what if I WANT/NEED an app on marketplace that I am willing to pay for?

Can you join up as a UK user and purchase apps using your Credit Card?

Thanks Veroland - that is exactly the question - how can one get to purchase apps from the Android market place?

Is it possible to create a UK/US account and purchase with your credit card? Or does it detect that you are accessing from SA - or knows that your Credit Card is a SA CC?

Anybody done this yet?

Or is there another way?

I'm not sure, you can try rooting your phone and then you might have access to the proper market, but I don't know how the purchase of apps will work.

You can try buying apps online and downloading them and then just copy the install to your phone.

That is the "free" one. In the begging the phones had no Market on and it was only released later after some dispute with Google was resolved.
 
NTLM Authentication for browsing via wireless

At work, we use ntlm server authentication to browse the internet using wifi. I can connect my hero via wifi and can browse internal sites but as soon as I browse external sites when the authentication is needed no popup appears that asks for the username and password to allow access to our proxy. Is there anyway around this?
