Hi All! I am hoping to upgrade to a HTC Desire the moment it becomes available on Vodacom (let's hope it is soon!).

My question though - can we as South Africans (as sidelined as we are in the technological community :-( ) purchase apps from the Android market? From what I have been able to Google, we cant!

Apparently Leaf has some app from which you can download free apps. But what if I WANT/NEED an app on marketplace that I am willing to pay for?

Can you join up as a UK user and purchase apps using your Credit Card?

Any other GPS apps with SA maps available for Android which does not use gprs to download maps when needed.

I came across this http://www.expansys.co.za/d.aspx?i=186545 , http://www.htcheroblog.com/2009/10/30/htc-cr-g300-desktop-cradle-review/ and I realised I could plug this into my sound system and (together with uncapped internet) have a stylish little wireless internet radio player in my lounge (using Shoutcast apps like StreamFurious on my Hero).

Was wondering if anyone knows of any local suppliers of HTC accessories (besides the Expansys route - which would have to go if no luck otherwise) - either via a website or physical store.

If you mean without paying you can't use the latest version, I have V9.2.15 rc3 working.

The only way we can get paid apps in the market in SA is to root the phone. I found an app last night that allows you to make the market think you're using a different carrier, thus allowing you to buy paid apps.

I'm using Handcent SMS. One of the options is to talk and let the app type the words for you but when I click on "Speak", it says "Recogniser not present". Where can I get the "Recogniser"?

Ok, apparently this file http://www.eclosion-android.com/com.google.android.voicesearch.apk should enable the google voice recognizer but I have not tested it yet, as well it seems the google.speech packages are still in beta and not available everywhere

I can confirm that that works. You need to install the Voice search, and then the HTC IME Keyboard. Using those two, I can now to Speech-to-text input

Listen guys, call me a dummy, but my phone defaults to the loudspeaker when I get a call, and I can't figure out how to change that. Any ideas?

Yeah, it's called Market Enabler. The filename is android.MarketEnabler.apk. That might make your googling easier

Like I said though, you have to have root access to use it. I tried it last night on my unrooted Desire - no joy.

Hey guys I'm a bit confused with HTC Sense, I've seen on some phones in the People application, you can scroll through the bar at the bottom and get to their Facebook and Flickr accounts, etc.
However, on my phone I have all my regular phone contacts completely separate to my facebook contacts.

In "People", when i say display all, it only shows my normal phone contacts, then I have to scroll to the internet tab to see Facebook, etc.
My phone contacts are on my sim if that makes a difference. How can I add Facebook details to my regular contacts?
