Official Google Nexus 7 Thread

I used the GPS from kitkat (Nexus 7 2012 wireless only) for the first time this morning after updating Sygic. None of the GPS apps that I have would lock onto the satellites - even though these apps were often showing at least 10 visible satellites. I did not have this problem with 4.3.3.

I eventually found a work around by switching off location reporting (on by default): Settings>Location>Location Services. I assume that the location reporting hogs the GPS module while trying to report a location without a means of getting through to the mother ship. Hope this helps someone.

I really do dislike kitkat.

Never had a problem while navigating with Google Maps yesterday.

Anybody got their Nexus 7 2013 to connect to a wifi network higher than 72Mbps? I get 150Mbps on campus but only 72Mbps at home and my router is capable of 300Mbps, only outputs on the N frequency.

Hi all.

So I might be in the market for a tablet in next month or two. Depending on how the finances look. The latest Nexus 7 (2013 version I'm guessing) seem to be great bang for buck from what I have gathered online.

Anybody mind sharing their opinion on it vs. other tablets, and where I can look at a good deal on it? From what I've gathered, this isn't the easiest device to find locally?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Locally, the Orange Store have stock. Prices are not too shabby, as well.

My opinion- it is a fantastic tablet, easily comparable to the iPad Mini (and in may respects, better). For the price you are paying compared to the Mini, it is great value for money.

I would also recommend getting it from a local retailer such as Orange. There is a small chance that you may receive a slightly faulty unit, but I suppose that it could happen with any device.

I'm quite happy with mine, it makes a great gaming device, video player and e-reader. It's light, pocketable (I often just put it into my jeans pocket) and it cost significantly less than the previous gen iPad Mini.

That being said- if your finances allowed it, there is no better tablet than the retina iPad Mini, IMO. The app ecosystem for iPad is miles ahead of any Android tablet at present, and for the foreseeable future.

Go with the Nexus you won't be disappointed. It's light and portable. Get the 32gb version for all your apps, all your media you can store on a flash drive or something, make sure you get an OTG cable and slimport cable.

At a price point it knocks the iPad mini out of the park. Real bang for buck.

It is a very good tablet, but comes nowhere close to an iPad air/mini.

How do I change my Playstore region? I want to install Netflix.

What do you mean? In what way?

Compared to my iPad air its slow. The iPad opens a web page is split seconds whereas the Nexus takes it time about it. There are some good word processing apps in the android store but nothing comes close to Apples app suite (Numbers, Pages, etc). The stock mail apps also suck. Can't even copy text from an email.

I like the nexus for its size but its got a way to go go match the iPad.

Oh and the most annoying thing is that I sometimes have to bang the screen for it go respond to my input.

You have a faulty unit. I can guarantee you my Nexus is nothing like that. Lol @ can't copy text.

Why u lolling? Have u tried it?
I don't think the unit is faulty. There are times that it works fine.

Yes, I use the normal mail app and Gmail app, both work fine. Some units have a multi touch issue. Are you on KK 4.4.2?

I have to agree -- my Nexus is great and works well. Mail apps are good and work fine. Copying text works fine. And I'm not in a walled-garden where everything needs to go via the cloud ;)
